Since Simon's new show is not having a maximum age, but probably will be 18+ for minimum, it looks like American Idol is trying to tap into the Justin Bieber crowd by going younger.  I'm not so sure that's a good idea, but I can see why they might try to distinguish themselves from Simon's show in that way.

The kids are "richer" these days than when I was a kid. -_- Or maybe it's because it's easier for them to buy stuff now, especially with the rise of the Internet. In the late 80's/early 90's I had to convince my mom to buy me a tape of my favorite artists, and she'd only buy it if I was getting good grades.
