SUDBURY, Ont. -- Danny Desrochers scored the eventual winner as the Sudbury Wolves avoided elimination with a 2-1 win over the Barrie Colts in Game 4 of their Ontario Hockey League first-round series Thursday. Trevor Carrick scored a power-play goal to give Sudbury a 1-0 lead in the first period, and Desrochers made it 2-0 with his goal halfway through the second. Zach Hall replied for Barrie with a power-play goal at 12:36 of the third period to spoil Franky Palazzeses shutout bid. Palazzese stopped 31 shots in the win, while Colts goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood made 21 saves in the losing effort. --- KNIGHTS 4 SPITFIRES 3 WINDSOR, Ont. -- Bo Horvat scored in the third period to lift London to a four-game sweep over the Spitfires. Gemel Smith, Max Domi and Brady Austin also scored for the Knights, and Jake Patterson made 34 saves. Ben Johnson and Sam Povorozniouk had a goal and an assist apiece for Windsor, and Ryan Foss scored in a last-ditch effort at 19:22 of the third to cut Londons lead to a single goal. Spitfires goalie Alex Fotinos stopped 31 shots in the loss. --- PETES 3 FRONTENACS 1 PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- Andrew DAgostini made 46 saves and the Petes scored two goals in the final period to win Game 4 of their first-round matchup and keep their playoff hopes alive. Josh MacDonald scored at 11:20 to take a 2-1 lead over the Frontenacs and Hunter Garlent added an empty netter with 18 seconds to play. Steven Lorentz scored in the second period. Darcy Greenaway replied for Kingston, who leads the best-of-seven series 3-1. Frontenacs goalie Matt Mahalak stopped 37 shots. --- ICEDOGS 5 BATTALION 3 ST. CATHARINES, Ont. -- Eric Ming scored twice and Brent Moran made 36 saves as the IceDogs edged the Battalion to move within one game of the series victory. Carter Verhaeghe had a goal and an assist for the IceDogs, who lead the series 3-1. Jordan Maletta added a short-handed goal, and Mitchell Fitzmorris also scored. Connor Jarvis scored a goal and assisted on another and Kyle Wood and Nick Paul also scored for the Battalion. North Bays Jake Smith stopped 21 shots in the losing effort. --- OTTERS 3 SPIRIT 2 (OT) SAGINAW, Mich. -- Michael Curtis scored 2:57 into overtime to lift the Otters over the Spirit in Game 4 of their first-round matchup. Brendan Gaunce tied the game with his fourth goal of the post-season at 10:56 of the second period, and Connor McDavid also scored for the Otters, who lead the best-of-seven set 3-1. Dane Fox had two assists. Justin Kea had a goal and an assist and Dylan Sadowy also scored for Saginaw. Eries Devin Williams stopped 22 shots for the win. Spirit goalie Jake Paterson made 36 saves. --- GENERALS 4 STEELHEADS 3 (OT) MISSISSAUGA, Ont. -- Hunter Smith scored a power-play goal 1:37 into overtime as the Generals knocked the Steelheads out of the playoffs in four straight games. Josh Sterk had a goal and two assists, Michael Dal Colle had a goal and one assist, and Scott Laughton also scored for Oshawa, which outshot Mississauga 41-29. Sam Babintsev and Bryson Cianfrone each had a goal and an assist apiece for the Steelheads, and Josh Burnside also scored. Generals goaltender Daniel Altshuller turned aside 26 shots for the victory. Mississaugas Spencer Martin shouldered the loss with 37 saves. Trevor Linden Authentic Jersey . -- Packers cornerback Tramon Williams has been fined $26,250 for contact with an official, per NFL guidelines. Vancouver Canucks Jersey . He, the 25-year-old Toronto backup net-minder and Manitoba native, would be making just his fourth start in the past 16 games against the Jets the following evening. It was the word of opportunity for Reimer, who has fallen into the role of backup, outmatched in recent weeks by Jonathan Bernier, his Quebec counterpart. http://www.hockeycanucksonline.com/authentic-zack-kassian-canucks-jersey -sale/. There is considerable interest from fans around the league as well, with all eight teams vulnerable to poaching. Perhaps his best option at landing his first choice at QB, the expansion draft also poses problems for general manager Marcel Desjardins. Kevin Bieksa Jersey . -- The Anaheim Ducks realize theyre in for plenty of tight defensive games in the next seven weeks while the rest of the NHL attempts to catch them atop the standings. Alexander Edler Canucks Jersey . Coetzee eagled the par-5 10th hole and birdied his closing three holes in a round that was just two shots more than his best on the European Tour, a 62 which equalled the Old Course record at St.Roberto Luongo stopped all 31 shots he faced and Maxim Lapierre scored the games only goal to move the Vancouver Canucks within one game of winning the Stanley Cup. Heavily-criticized after allowing a dozen goals on 58 shots in two games in Boston, Luongo continued his dominance at home. Hes now allowed two goals in three home games in this series. As the crowd in Vancouver cheered when Luongo was pulled from the Vancouver goal in Game Four then, as fans are wont to do, cheered Luongo when he was named first star of Game Five after posting his third playoff shutout, the reaction online seemed be that any criticism of Luongo was unjustified. While theres no denying Luongos credentials, the difference between regular season and playoff results is what fuels the criticism. Over the last decade, Luongo ranks fourth among goaltenders (with at least 100 games played) in regular season save percentage at .920. In the playoffs, over that same time frame (among goaltenders with at least 20 games played), Luongos save percentage of .919 ranks 13th and thats after the Game Five shutout. So, there is a difference, one that was further accentuated by Luongos troubles in Game Three and Game Four of the Cup Final and thats what brought about the critiques in the first place. That doesnt mean that anyone but Luongo should have started Game Five and it doesnt make Luongo anything close to a bad goaltender but its not fair to suggest that hes always performed like an elite goaltender when the chips were down. No matter the criticism, though, Luongo did perform like a big-game goaltender Friday evening, is now a single win away from the Stanley Cup and hes doing it with a team that is giving him the bare minimum of offensive support, having scored a grand total of six goals through the first five games.dddddddddddd What must be maddening to the Bruins is that theyve managed, for the most part, to take Vancouvers top scorers out of equation and that has left Alex Burrows and Raffi Torres as the Canucks leading scorers in the series, with three points apiece. Even on home ice, which allowed the Canucks to get the Sedin Twins away from Patrice Bergeron, at least some of the time, Vancouvers big guns still came up empty, but they only needed to get one past Tim Thomas. The Canucks, led by defenceman Alexander Edler with 10, outhit the Bruins 47-27. Its no great surprise that neither team managed to score on the power play. The Canucks are now 1-for-25 (4.0%) with the man advantage in the final, while the Bruins are 3-for-21 (14.3%) in the final, but just 8-for-82 (9.8%) over the course of the postseason. Heading back across the continent for Game Six, the Bruins will understandably feel confident playing in front of their home fans and will have to try and duplicate the success they had in Game Three and Four so that they can force Game Seven back in Vancouver. Despite all the histrionics -- the diving, the taunting, the whining, the interview jabs etc. -- the bottom line is that its been a wonderfully entertaining, competitive series between two closely-matched teams. Two more games of this, then, would be just fine, thanks. Scott Cullen can be reached at [email protected] and followed on Twitter at http://twitter.com/tsnscottcullen.
