Dalembert trade could shake up NBA Draft

According to multiple reports, the Philadelphia 76ers agreed in principle to deal starting center Samuel Dalembert to the Sacramento Kings for Andres Nocioni and Spencer Dt5FW6a9x Hawes.

With Dalembert being the central cog of the Philadelphia defense, there is now a large hole to fill in the Sixers' front line. Could Derrick Favors be the answer?

The New Jersey Nets are planning a June 21 showdown workout between Favors and Kentucky's DeMarcus Cousins. Popular belief cheap jerseys had Philadelphia snatching college basketball's player of the year, Evan Turner, with the second pick. With Dalembert gone and Elton Brand emerging as a bust, a big body is now a must for Philly.

Sixers general manager Ed Stefanski, formerly of the Nets, is a Turner fan. New head coach Doug Collins, however, is partial to Favors' upside and athleticism.

If Favors goes at No. 2, Turner will fall into the Nets' lap and enable them to pursue one of the many talented big men available in free agency. Even if Favors is the pick, Rod Thorn is still likely to pursue a power forward on the open market rather than rush a 19 year old into the starting lineup.

This trade could turn out disastrous for the Nets, though. With DeMarcus Cousins delivering impressive off season workouts, he could lure New Jersey into reaching for him at the third slot. Based on Cousins' skillset and physical shape, he isn't even the second best big man available to the Nets. Georgetown's Greg Monroe would arguably fit better next to Lopez than Cousins.

Grabbing Turner would give the Nets great flexibility going forward. Prior to joining the Examiner team, Greg worked at The Poughkeepsie Journal and covered multiple sports there. He is a graduate of Marist College where he earned a degree in sports communications. He covered men's basketball and football at Marist and attended the MAAC Tournament yearly.
