What Hip Hop Dance Shoes To Wear For Showcase?

There isn't a specific type of shoe that is to be considered a hip hop dance shoe.   reebok gl 6000 Dancers more often than not get athletic shoes from the sporting brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, Reebok and the likes for dancing.

In my opinion, comfort should be ranked first when choosing a pair of shoes for dancing. This is because dancing may be vigorous at times and may require a shoe with added protection like insole padding, so that the dancer would not hurt his/her foot when executing demanding hip hop dance moves.

Having said that however, the style and design of the shoes are also important if dancers are using the pair for showcases, dance recitals or performances. Are there shoes that fulfill both the comfort and style requirement? You bet. Let us look at the fashion trends in hip hop culture through the years.

In the early 1980s, the hip hop scene was seen to associate itself with well-known sportswear brands, such as Le Coq Sportif, Kangol, Adidas and Pro-Keds. Popular artistes at that point in time also help to further propagate the hip hop fashion wave by wearing Clarks shoes, Britishers and sneakers.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, sportswear powerhouse Nike began to dominate the urban streetwear sneaker market together with brands such as Reebok, Kangol, Champion, Carhartt, and Timberland.   reebok easytone Hence, from here we saw the uprising of athletic hip hop dance shoes. This was further popularized as stars from the East coast such as Wu-Tang Clan and Gangstarr started endorsing these brands.

Through to the mid-1990s to late 1990s, the East Coast hip hop community began to gain inspiration from the gangsters of the 1930s and 1940s thus setting the trend of the alligator-skin shoes ("gators").

Beyond the 1990s, we see the emerging trend of hip hop artistes starting their own fashion labels and clothing lines. Hence there was a heavy celebrity influence among hip hop fashion styles.

Here and there, we spot comeback crazes from the 80s and early 90s as well.

A more recent look at trends now from 2010-2011, see the surfacing of Skater Fashion. This include brands such as Vans, Nike SB(Skateboarding) etc.

Dancers often create their own looks and do not necessarily buy from famous brands. A visit to any dance studio will see many dancers donning sneakers with no brand attached. Different performances may also require shoes outside of athletic brands. This depends on the theme or story behind the dance choreography. However, it is good to note to buy shoes suitable to the type of hip hop dance moves you will be dancing to. For example, there are shoes with a slippery sole, not a well gripped one for choreography that requires lots of sliding or shuffling. On the contrary, non-slip shoes are also great for other dance moves.

Another important factor to look out for when choosing dance shoes is price. Good dance shoes can be very affordable if you know where to look.   reebok furylite If you don't mind spending a bit more for good quality and durable shoes, you will find that you are actually saving a lot more money not having to keep purchasing shoes in the near future.
