'Seinfeld' Puffy Shirt Going for $10,000 in Auction
Fri, Dec 6, 2002 01:44 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - A particularly ugly piece of television history can be yours, provided you can scrape together somewhere north of $10,000 by Saturday night (Dec. 7).

That's the going price for the "puffy shirt" Jerry wore in a 1993 "Seinfeld" episode of the same name. The shirt is one of 170 items from the late, great sitcom currently being offered at Sothebys.com.

In the episode, Kramer's (Michael Richards) low-talking fashion designer girlfriend asks Jerry a question. He doesn't understand what she's saying but nods politely. It turns out he's agreed to wear one of her designs -- a ridiculous poofy pirate shirt -- on the "Today" show.

A number of other costumes -- mostly worn by Richards as Kramer -- props, and scripts are also up for bid in the auction. As of midday Friday, a script for the series finale signed by the cast was going for $3,115, as was one from "The Soup Nazi" episode. The teleplay for the classic episode "The Contest" was available for a bid above $2,605.

Other items in the auction include pictures from the walls of Jerry's and George's (Jason Alexander) apartments; a Christmas card showing Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) -- but not her exposed breast -- from the episode "The Pick" ; and a yearbook given to the cast and crew at the end of the show's run.

Oh - MrRoo would love to own any of this stuff from Seinfeld!

For Christmas I am giving him tickets to see Seinfeld do his standup routine in January.  Already booked my parents to babysit - we will have a nice night out on the town!
