what to buy?????
« on: May 2nd, 2005, 10:19am »

My eldest sister turns 40 this month and I have no idea what to get her as a gift!

she has every thing she could possibly want and when I ask her what she'd like she says, " oh I don't know"

I've been bidding on Ebay for some books that were first published in 1965...the year she was born and thought she might like something along those lines....however does anybody else have any ideas as  to what to buy a 40 year old woman who already has everythingHuh?

Hmmm, I was going to say a Gifit Certificate, a dollar for each year.
Knowing how wonderful this feels, A manicure/pedicure
Gift Certificate would surely be appreciated.

Being the creative wonder that you are, Bec, I know you will
make the proper appreciated decision!

I'm the kinda person that would much rather be taken out to dinner and a movie and spend time with you than get a gift from you on my birthday.  Don't know if she's the same, but my suggestion would be to put a hand-made coupon in a card for one dinner date to anywhere.

Good idea Rhune.  Or perhaps a homemade dinner?

I'm working on something extra special for my mom's 70th birthday.  I had hoped to have it ready for Mother's Day but it's gonna take more time. I can be finished by August 30 though. She has always had a cardboard box full of her photographs from teenage years on through adulthood including many milestones.   I stole the box and I'm sure she has not noticed. I am putting each and every picture into a scrapbook.  The collection of books along with it will include all her high school annuals as well as the baby books for my brother and I.  It is something I know she will cherish.

It depends what she likes. I can't see anyone not liking a dinner out for their birthday, so that might be a good idea.

on my 40th my husband gave me a small locket with a picture of my daughter inside.

I treasure it.  Maybe something personal like that.

My experience is that those younger have a trickier time with figuring out the present etc than the person turning 40.

Celebrate and have joy together.  She will always treasure her memory of a special day.

One of my most treasured things (that I bought for myself) is a set of books that I read when I was a child.  My neighbor and I used to read Trixie Belden books (which by the way are being printed again!!).  I had some and she had some, between us, we had all 16 (at the time, that's all there were).  I spent months (and lots of money) searching eBay for the series that we had (there have been about 4 different publishings of them).  I finally got all of them, and I re-read them all.  I'd forgotten just how much fun they were.

Maybe something like that, something that she enjoyed as a child, and would like to have copies of now that she's older (and maybe has children of her own to share them with..   Smiley)

I loved Trixie Belden! Cheesy My grandmmother bought me the entire series as a child. I have never met anyone else who had read them. Cool

So was I into Nancy Drew, also Cherry Ames,
this series is about a nurse.

I do like the idea of something engraved.  Is there a gift shop that has gifts and engraves as there are here?
I don't remember the name of it.
Ladies, help me out, is it ENGRAVED MEMORIES?
