I may have said this before, but I suspect Lost was doing reruns while FOX was running the 2 hour American Idol specials.  Can't blame em, that show is a ratings juggernaut and would only have hurt them.  By waiting out the initial shows they don't hurt themselves any.

They weren't the only ones running reruns, just the way the TV shows go.
All of the networks want us to watch their show.

No, not the hobbit and it's unlikely he will ever be killed off, Ethan is the bad guy that took Claire.
 
I read an article awhile back with the producer and he commented that the hobbit brings in a huge audience they wouldn't have had otherwise, lord of the rings fans, and that the one person he would never fire is the hobbit. That as long as he comes out of his trailer each day for fliming, he will always have a job.  Don't count on him going away any time soon, he's a sacred cash cow.

Got a question:  The guy who died (not Ethan...the other guy on the beach) who Hurley called Scott/Steve, ... was he the guy who complained of a rash and seemed to be a hypochondriac about 5 eppy's back?

I think he is, I thought the same thing.  Going searching, see if I can find out.  Wasn't that the eppy where they built the golf course?

Scott was in the episode where Claire went missing (which is where Hurley was doing the census) so I think it must be the same guy.

Let us know what you find out.  I'm not sure if Scott and Steve are two different people or one-in-the-same.
