Biography
Don & Mary Jean have been married for 20 years and live in Portola Valley, California. Between them they have six children and 16 grandchildren, all from previous marriages. They met almost 27 years ago through mutual friends while they were both married to other people. Donald is a physician, and Mary Jean is an interior designer.

Donald & Mary Jean live for adventure and travel. They have already traveled to six continents and believe that their combined travel experience will make them successful contenders in the Race. They are looking forward to all of the challenges that the Race may bring their way, especially the extreme tasks.

They have been through a lot together, including a near-death experience when their boat of eight people capsized in the South Pacific, throwing Donald onto a coral reef and Mary Jean into the water. The locals later told them that they held a memorial service for them, thinking that there was no way they could survive the treacherous water. The couple survived this horrific experience and emerged with a greater zest for life.

Before being selected for the Race, Mary Jean's most recent accomplishment is losing 23 pounds on Dr. Phil's diet, and Donald's is being an award-winning winemaker.

Although they are the oldest couple on this Race, Donald, 69, and Mary Jean, 65, believe that their life experience and appetite for adventure will be a key asset in winning THE AMAZING RACE.

They said they're going to use their brains. Well, too bad, but I think it takes more than brains to be in the Race. If they ARE going to use it, they should have used it in booking earlier flights to increase their leads from the other teams. As of now, they're not leading.

I was impressed by them. They never gave up, just kept on. One thing I REALLY didn't like was when Don tried to get the Ikea rep to give them the clue because they were older. I thought that was shameless.

Nod, I'd have wanted to do the build it task anyway, cause it's a lot more appealing to me than counting, but if for some crazy reason we'd chose counting, I'd have taken one look at that stack and turned around to go to the desk building.

I think they were not using their brains enough. If they want to win against the other Teams, they should have always been ahead of everyone or most of the other Teams. They haven't done that yet. It will take tons of luck to carry them into the final half of the Race.

Not only are Don and MJ the oldest racers, period, they're the oldest racers to reach this point. If memory serves correctly, Dave and Margaretta were eliminated in the third round. Steve and Dave (from Chicago w00t!) were 43 and 46 when they raced. Teri and Ian were 49 and 50. So yes, Don and MJ are the oldest racers to make it 5 legs into the race.

I liked them a lot better after this episode. MJ was very strong in the salt-hauling task and they never gave up at any point. I still don't think they have the stamina to make it to the end, but I was impressed with them as racers in this episode.

The funny thing is, I didn't realise that until after they said so because they seem to be fitter than some of the other older Teams. Also comparing them to Peggy/Claire (TAR 2, and who were 63/65 years old), Don/Mary Jean are very fit according to their age.

Yes. They are very fit for old people, especially MJ. I still remember when my grandparents were that age (3 or 4 years ago) and they weren't as fit (not even close) as Don and MJ.
