Classes

For those of us in school I think it could be cool to post the classes we are taking or will be taking soon.

Well, this year......

Trimester 1:
English 9
World History & Civilization
Career Plan & Success Skills
Health
Orientation to Life and Careers

Trimester 2: (Current Trimester)
Study Hall
Computer Applications
Advanced Swimming o_O
Biology I (or Roman Numeral 1 w/e lol)
Algebra 1 Honors (A Smart Kid Class, too bad I'm failing)

Trimester 3: (Don't know the order quite yet)
Study Hall
Algebra 1 Honors
World history & Civilization
English 9
Biology I

These are the classes for this year. We started planning the classes we are taking next year this week. Here is what I have planned:

English 10.1
Enlish 10.2
Geometry 1.1
Geometry 1.2
Integrated Chemistry/Physics 1.1
Integrated Chemistry/Physics 1.2
Physical Education 1
Physical Education 2
Broadcasting - Mass Media
Spanish 1.1
Spanish 1.2
Interpersonal Relationships
Business Foundations 1.1
Business Foundations 1.2
Indiana Studies

15 Classes. 3 Trimesters. 5 Classes a Trimester. 70 Minutes Per Class.

Some classes are 2 Trimesters long. I'm doing bad at Algebra. Pulling out of Honors Program and doing regular Geometry next year. =_=

So, what classes are all of you taking or planning for next year?

Fall 06
Spanish 101 - Elementary Spanish (four days a week - one hour, four credits)
 - I took two years in high school and this class was both years combined into one semester - need four semesters of a language for my possible major - whatever that may be)

History 195 - American Memory of World War II (twice a week, 90 minutes, four credits)
 - This class filled my first year writing requirement. Interesting class - learned more about underlying issues in the war (race, military strategy, ect.) than the actual timeline of the war.

Math 115 - Calculus I (three days a week - 90 minutes, four credits)

Stats 350 - Introduction to Statistics and Data Analysis (two 90 minute lectures and a 90 minute lab a week, four credits)

Winter 07
Spanish 102 - Elementary Spanish (four days a week - one hour, four credits)

Economics 101 - Microeconomics (two 90 minute lectures, one 90 minute discussion a week, four credits)

Math 116 - Calculus II (three 90 minutes classes a week, four credits)

Stats 125 - Games, Gambling, and Coincidences (twice a week - 90 minutes, three credits)

My daughter's high school did trimesters... was very hard for her ADDness.  Every twelve weeks there was a different schedule and different teachers... She eventually switched to an alternative school where she could work at her own pace.

Well.....I'm failing Algebra. I usually get A's and B's but I've never been good at Algebra. You have to have a C- or better to go to the next half of the class. I won't be able to do that. I had to take it ouf of my schedule and add in PE which I was taking next year. So, I will put Algebra in for PE and then take somthing else out and put the other Algebra in for that. But instead of being in the smart algebra class I'll putmyself in the regular one.

We're signing up for next year's classes (senior year, yay) and this is what i'm taking so far:

Computer Information Systems 12
Technical Writing
Civics
*some other Social Studies credit*
Spanish IV
*some math class*

I found out that to be in the Career Tech classes (my computer class) you have to have a senior math. You usually only need 3 math credits.

I don't know what math i'm taking but there's no way I want to take Trig.

Yay for CMR! We're both 'Iskolar ng Bayan'! (though I'm an Alumni already)

Liz, in our PE, ANYTHING GOES. LOL. You should have taken 2 units of PE1 (basic) and 6 units of PE2 by the time you graduate. Choices for PE2 can be anything from what CMR took, to Philippine Games, Fencing, Bowling, Swimming, etc.

My PEs were Karate, Philippine Games, and... I forgot the third one.  Grin

I have to run over 10 rounds, 20 assisted pull-ups, countless situps, jumping jack and other killing exercises during my PE, TWICE every week.

I really don't mind ballet as a change. Seriously.

That sounds pretty interesting. We don't have PE classes here in Malaysia past the secondary school level...Maybe it's all for the best since I can't dance if my life depended on it, and I generally don't like sports. But it'd be good for me since I'd probably lose weight. LOL. Sitting in front of the comp all day is turning my into a blimp Cry

AH, the Ministry of Education gives all students (in pre-determined groups) a choice of 2 projects, where they have to complete one of them. In October/November, we are suppose to have a written report and do a presentation. Along the way they throw in some assignments for you to do.

I enjoy Geography when I was first year, it was programmed as elective. I have finished College Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus.

Next semester would be a huge one. I have to take my majors in Engineering Sciences such as Statics of Rigid Bodies, and Dynamics of Rigid Bodies and Statics of Retor Bodies. Plus Engineering Drawing. =)

Hey JP. Hmm. I have taken three PE's as of now. Duckpin Bowling, Scrabble and Folk Dance.

Its revised now, you can take any of the PE's. But you should have taken 8 units before you grade, or 8 units of PE before third year if you are running for honors.

I'm only in High School but our schedule is so like a college schedule. Except that there are tons of subjects.

Everyday, we have Chemistry which gets boring without an experiment or examination (which makes the class un-boring because of depression  Grin ). I have Biology on MWF, that's a nice schedule for me. Physics is first subject on T and TH but third on F. I don't feel good having Physics for first subject but I think it's a lot better than having FILIPINO for first subject. Unfortunately I have Filipino for first subject on W and F. Research class schedule is fine, actually. M T TH. I love those days because I also have Computer Science and Social Science on those days too. My only Math-free day is on F and I have English when I have Biology. PE is fortunately always last subject during T and F.

The bad thing about my schedule is that it's fully loaded during Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesdays are really light (I can go home at 1:40PM). Thursdays are light as well BUT I go home late because of organizational meetings. Fridays are fine for me, only six subjects, last subject PE.

I attend the Philippine Science High School, something like the school TAR 4 Life wishes to attend. Killer curriculum, but it's so much fun! I'm in THIRD YEAR and RAYMOND is my CLASSMATE!!! Hahaha!

GTG for now, research work!

Last semester, my grades were tragic.

Math 53 (Calculus 1) - 4.00
Chem 16 (Gen. chem.)- 2.75
Physics 71 (Mechanics)- 2.75
Humanidades 1 (Humanities)- 1.25

That's basically it. I retook Math 53(Calculus 1) and got a 2.25. Better!

You know studying in college here, is so hard. so damn hard.

Control and organization of eukaryotic genome, which is the DNA and RNA and stuff. You just learn how the genes move and parts of the DNA that enable the coding of the genes to take place and such.

i'm a journalism major from the University of the Philippines. we have to take so-called "general education" subjects, five each from the following domains: 'social sciences and philosophy' (SSP); 'arts and humanities' (AH); and 'math, science and technology' (MST). these are mostly introductions/overviews to broad topics. (i think this is because our uni believes in "liberal arts education")

intro to the eng'g sciences is my last MST. Smiley

Jornalism sounds like a good course of study to me. Does this subject have a crazy workload? Just curious.

@ elle:

are you taking up journ too?! Grin

@ genius:

in my program, we get hands-on early.

as early as journ101 (which we take it in the second year, first semester), we are assigned to go to police stations and government offices to look for stories. we also had to interview a celebrity.

oh, and i interviewed a prostitute. Lips Sealed

it's not too crazy, we're given almost two weeks per story. our professors keep telling us that they should be giving us tighter deadlines.

---

@jp:

hm,, i think i went on hiatus here at forumsnet about 2 years ago when college started to become demading. (the first year of college was a breeze--no, i'm not bragging, it was only 15 hours a week)

i'm going to be 20 years old when i finish college (again, if there won't be any snags). i think i'm just right on track though i am one of the youngest in my year/batch.

I'm doing a diploma in Mass Communications, and we have to choose from one of 3 majors (Public Relations, Journalism and Advertising) for the 3rd semester. I'm planning to choose journalism. I'd be graduating next semester if I did not switch colleges, but I made the decision to switch, and to retake every subject again, so I won't graduate with my degree until 2009 or so.

Getting hands-on early is cool though. The Journ101 class that I took, the hardest assignment was for us to read 3 versions of the same news story from the 3 major English dailies here in Malaysia, and then, rewrite it based on the facts we could get from those news stories.

A 2 week deadline is a pain, lol. I get exactly 2 weeks for all my assignments, and the lecturers, I'm sure, plot to give us all our assignments on the same time. But I guess it does not matter, lol. I never write anything up until the night before they're done.

Getting a bachelor's degree at 20 is quite early, I think. Doesn't a bachelor's degree take 4 years of study?

:laff: I can never write up anything earlier than the night before it's due. I get better marks with last minute work, to the displeasure of my classmates.

I have finals starting tomorrow till Tuesday, 5 subjects altogether, and I have not been able to start studying seriously. I'll be up all night to study, LOL.

---

i usually do data-gathering early then i leave the stuff aside, until i write the article the night before the deadline.

hehe,, i do the same thing! i get good marks when i "review" stuff just before the exam. i mean, up until before the test papers are passed around.  Cheesy

I started college when I was 17, and then stopped and went back again in July, wasting a year and a half. LOL.

Sneezemachine, we have the EXACT same studying method. Nothing stays in my head if I try to study early, lol. I can't even concentrate on my notes now.

But I do wonder how I'm going to remember the hundred or so theories I have to remember for Intro to Comm and Human Behavior on Friday. LOL.

The first two, yeah. No idea what the 'osgood-schramm circular model' is, LOL.

Spiral of Silence- Minority views are basically slowly silenced by the majority.

Agenda Setting- The media decides what stories are newsworthy and how much airtime/space to give the story. The more time or space given to a story, the more "important" it is. (I'm sure THIS will be out in tomorrow's exam)

^That's easy enough for me to remember.

------------------

What I have a problem with is remembering..."The 5 stage llistening process" "The 5 stage conversation process" (I know that one, hehe) "The 6 step problem solving process" "6 ways nonverbal messages interact with verbal messages"  and so on. I always get them mixed up. Sad Or, at least one of the steps or stages will persistently elude my memory during the exam, and it comes back to me the second I leave the exam hall. Gaah!
