Can someone enlighten me about US education wrt college/university? I got a very lousy SATS score and am considering whether to retake it or not.I am just curious about how the liberal arts education goes about, and whether the atmosphere is good for studying or not.

Since you're here, I would like to know if McGill conducts lessons in English and/or French. Ok, random.

McGill is an "English" university meaning the courses are taught in English-- however, some courses can be taught in French but not required ones unless they offer an English equivalent (ie they won't make you take Introduction to Sociology in French.. but it could be offered in French)... (of course this is excluding actual French courses)

Some professors will also allow students to write their research essays in English or French... I don't fully agree with that- but understand the logic...

Montreal itself is also very English. There are some very  French areas just as their are very English areas but the vast majority of people speak English fluently

Thanks for the clarification, coz I have this odd perception that Quebec (whole province) is quirky in relation to the rest of Canada. I think I will  research more on McGill when I have the time.

OK, back to US education. UC Berkeley is the top US choice in my school, more so for the girls.

Which universities did your friends go? Community, state or Ivy-League? Just curious.  Smiley
