Wacky Wanda's Episode 5 Review!

Our own 'Survivor blogger' has sent us her latest commentary on Episode 5!

ALLIANCE BUSTERS!   Woooo!  Who can you trust at Casaya?
First, there was the Alliance of Four, captained by Shane.  It lasted for exactly one Tribal Council.  Then, Shane votes for his alliance-mate Aras, while Danielle takes Courtney with her in a "Why-don't-we-change-this-game-up?" mutiny to call the shots after Captain Shane has extended an agreement to Bob-Dawg.    Of the AoF, only Aras appears to have stuck by any original plan.  Aras looked good this week on a lot of grounds; he showed maturity in being able to apologize when Bruce felt "dissed," leadership in attempting to communicate rationally when disagreements arose, and courage in expressing to Bruce that "we are not your students" when Bruce didn't quite get it.   Strange, the Shane vote for Aras.  Does Shane think Aras is a threat to his leadership?  Danielle's the threat!

Second, there was the Wine-in-the-Outhouse Alliance of Bobby and Bruce.  That one didn't last two days. One night Bob shares stolen wine with "my boy Bruce" (paradoxically, it is now a compliment and a token of friendship to call a man "boy"!) and promises never to vote him off, and the next night he writes down Bruce's name in TC.  As the old saying goes, "With friends like that, who needs enemies?"  Moral:  Don't trust a promise made "under the influence."  But don't trust the promises these people make when they're sober, either!   Bruce at least didn't break his alliance; he cast a wild-card vote to express his anger at Courtney defiling his Zen Rock Garden.   We would expect that Bruce, Courtney, and Aras would have some of the same kind of spiritual, in-touch-with-nature values, a kind of mutual transcendentalist vibe -- but these three that might have seemed to be the most "spiritual" instead have the most conflict.  What's with that?

Ironically, while at LaMina the men took charge and have systematically reduced the distaff side of the tribe, at Casaya, the women have banded together under Danielle's leadership to start taking out the men!  The four men cast their votes at three different targets, while the three women stuck together to take Bobby out and evened the score, gender-wise, at 3-3 on their tribe.  The women get along; the men don't.  If the gals continue to stick together, it should be easy for them each time to decide which guy they can pull in to help eliminate their target male.

BEANS!  BEANS!  They're good for your heart!  Beans! Beans!  They'll make you ....  blow apart!  Yep, beans are notoriously hard to digest, and when your digestive system has been inoperative for a couple weeks, they can wreak havoc. Terry spoke for the tribe, and the protein value of beans might have made them appear a better choice than rice, but I have to wonder if Austin and Nick didn't come to question whether the Captain T called the wrong play there.  I was impressed with Dan taking on the underwater work with Terry while Nick and Austin were still in recovery mode as the Immunity Challenge got underway.

Bobby was physically strong for Casaya.  They will miss him in future challenges.  Even though LaMina lost four in a row, the margin of difference was just seconds, and without Bobby on Casaya, LaMina should fare better in upcoming challenges.

When all's been said and done for this week, we can only conclude that the guy who looked best AT the chopping block (severing fish heads) ended up ON the chopping block.  Chop-Chop!  Bye-Bye Bob!
