Pohang stainless steel company was put into operation in January 1999, producing an annual output of 110 thousand tons of stainless steel cold rolled sheet. In October 2002, the Pohang Iron and Steel Co signed a joint investment of 180 million US dollars with Qingdao iron and Steel Group Company to build a joint venture of 150 thousand tons of cold rolled stainless steel plate in Qingdao. It is expected to be completed and put into production in 2005, which is also one of the biggest projects in the production of cold rolled stainless steel plates in China.
