As early as the warring states period (475-221 BC), China already had the custom of indoor incense, burning spices mainly with herbs. In fact, the fragrance of incense originated from the ancient people in order to eliminate mosquitoes and eliminate the use of air.

It is recorded in the book of rites of zhou: "shears take the palm of silkworm, to attack it, to smoke it with imperceptible grass, all things of common insects." In ancient times, incense burning was also a clean environment. Before the special incense burner was produced in China, ordinary copper charcoal furnace was used to incense incense.

The Chinese began to burn incense indoors during the warring states period, but the incense implements designed specifically for burning incense did not appear until the han dynasty.

The shape of Chinese incense burner started from the warring states period copper furnace and various types of incense burner appeared in successive dynasties. Material of pottery, porcelain, bronze, gold, silver, silk inlay enamel, painted enamel, bamboo wood and jade and so on, the variety.

In the spring and autumn period, the "prince baby furnace" with copper charcoal for indoor heating appeared. This kind of copper furnace is still used in later generations.
