'Survivor's' General Gets Dismissed

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - With Thursday night's (May 9) episode of "Survivor: Marquesas," the last remnants of the old Rotu alliance were swept away.

Robert Decanio, the limousine driver from Queens, New York affectionately dubbed "The General" by his fellow contestants, was voted off the island 5 to 1, despite some last-ditch maneuvering to try and oust young buck Neleh Dennis.

The show started on day 31 with each of the contestants feeling the pains of separation from their friends and families. Before the reward challenge started, host Jeff Probst asked the group how happy they'd be if he'd offer the winner a call home. Then, saying that he was just asking and it turned out he was teasing them, he offered to do them one better.

He then introduced a close friend or family member of each of the remaining contestants. As each of the unexpected guests stepped out of the woods, they were greeted with shrieks and shrills. Neleh's mother Becky, Kathy's son Pat, Rob's sister Vanna, Sean's friend Darryl, Vecepia's husband Leander and Pascal's wife Beverly were then each asked to take a spot on a giant game board, where they would take a step to adjacent spots and turn over the pad they just stepped from. Each square stepped on would be turned over so that nobody else could walk on it. As people got boxed in and weren't able to move, they were eliminated.

As each loved one was eliminated, they were given the chance to say farewell to their Survivor contestant counterparts. Kathy's son Pat was the last man standing and narrowly beat out Rob's sister Vanna. As the reward, Probst dubbed Pat a Soliantu tribe member for the day and instructed the rest of the contestants to take him back to camp for the night.

Back at camp, it quickly became clear that Pat wouldn't have been nearly the competitor that his mother was. He mentioned numerous times that he thought Kathy was crazy for doing this, and obviously couldn't believe how harsh the conditions were.

"I like my TV and my couch," he said. "It was muddy and disgusting. I'm usually a pretty boy."

At one point, Kathy pulled Pat aside and asked him for strategic help in getting to the final stage of the game - very quickly it became clear that Pat wouldn't be much help there either.

In the morning, after a boat arrived and took Pat back home, Kathy and Robert walked off to try and strategize about the coming tribal council. They thought that because of Neleh's partnership with Paschal English it would be a good thing to vote her off before it was too late. Meanwhile, Sean and Vecepia were also talking of eliminating Neleh, but for entirely different reasons.

"She's not the girl next door," said Sean, who suggested that she was riding Pascal's coattails and didn't belong in the final group.

The immunity challenge required the contestants to use a slingshot to shoot out plates on a small tower fashioned for each Survivor. When the sand knocked from the tower covered a small idol sitting below, that contestant was eliminated. Vecepia won the immunity idol for the first time when she eliminated Neleh.

As the tribal council loomed, Neleh knew that she was vulnerable and thought that all the other contestants could still gang up on her and Pascal.

"They could boot me and Pascal out," she said. "This game could go any way."

But at the tribal council later that night, the new alliance stuck together and voted Robert off. Sean was the only other Survivor to get a vote that was, obviously, cast by Robert.

Sean Loses 'Survivor' Showcase Showdown

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - With the John-Tammy-Robert-Zoe alliance safely dispatched, there was little for the remaining five "Survivor: Marquesas" contestants to do on Thursday's (May 16) episode but turn on each other.

And whattaya know, they did.

It quickly became apparent that Kathy was the odd person out, as Paschal and Neleh had their I-won't-vote-for-you pact and Sean and Vee, despite all protestations to the contrary, at the very least had a tight bond with one another.

All the politicking took a break for the reward challenge, which resembled the most ridiculously complicated "Price Is Right" game ever devised, with the prize of (cue announcer Rod Roddy) ... a new car! Sean completed the tiki-building, coconut-cracking, stilt-walking, slingshot-shooting challenge with hardly a whisper of competition from the other four, and for his efforts was rewarded with a new SUV.

After more lobbying of Kathy, the gang headed out for a nighttime immunity challenge, which combined elements of the ACT reading comprehension section and an obstacle course. After hearing host Jeff Probst tell a story about a mighty Marquesian warrior, the players had to answer questions posted at six stations, collecting tiki idols for each right answer. First one to five idols wins.

Neleh and Kathy both got their five right and sprinted to the finish, only to find that they'd each dropped one tiki. Kathy found hers first and claimed immunity, shouting "It's great to win this game!"

Then came an extra-snippy tribal council, with Paschal and Neleh accusing Sean and Vee of sneaky practices and Sean making an unconvincing case to Kathy to let him have the immunity necklace. In the end, Sean's forthrightness may have cost him, as Kathy cast the deciding vote to boot him.

The final four -- Kathy, Vee, Paschal and Neleh -- head into Sunday's (May 19) two-hour finale.
