Survivor Fest is a gathering of more than 30 Survivors from all seasons of the hit CBS reality show 'Survivor'. More than 900 supporters will also attend this evening of auctions, desserts, dancing and mingling: all in support of Camp Kindle.

Children who are infected with and affected by HIV and AIDS attend Camp Kindle each summer to play, learn and build character. Camp Kindle provides 100% of the cost for these children, as most come from disadvantaged families.

With only 43 minutes to go the current price is USD$255 after starting the bidding at USD$0.01 All I can keep thinking is if I had only read this post earlier. This would have made a very awesome birthday present. Well I will still have the priceless gift of spending July 12th with my husband and daughter together for the whole day. Best gift a mom can get actually.

OTOH - sigh, it would have been very cool thing to do for a survivoraddict. Wink

BTW - will be in Sudbury, Ontario this Friday instead having lots of fun and not computer and no work!

`Survivor' fans meet the stars

Hordes of local "Survivor"fans turned out Saturday to meet their favorites from CBS-TV's reality series.
The contestants met face-to-face with "Survivor" enthusiasts who waited in line for a chance to meet and greet cast members in town for Survivor Fest. The fund-raiser will benefit Camp Kindle, a nonprofit organization for kids directly or indirectly affected by the AIDSvirus.

The weekend, which culminated Saturday night in the benefit at Pershing Auditorium, was organized by "Survivor"contestant Diane Ogden, a Lincoln mail carrier.

For Jerri Manthey, who found fame on "Survivor: The Australian Outback"and by baring all in Playboy, the support from Lincoln residents -- sometimes coupled with borderline fanaticism -- was fun, albeit a bit strange at times.

One man who showed up at the Williamsburg Village Hy-Vee on Saturday gave Manthey and "Survivor: Africa"contestant Lindsey Richter each a bag of M&Ms, and then "asked us to get real close for a picture with him," Manthey said.

And cast members were asked to sign pretty much anything that could be written on with a permanent marker -- shirts, posters, tiki torches.

University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate students Jodi Grabast and Chrissy Pence were among the fans who crowded the Williamsburg Hy-Vee to catch a glimpse of the stars.

"They're famous people," Pence said. "And it's cool, because you relate to them when they're on TV."

"We watch them every week," Grabast added.

Holding T-shirts and posters already autographed from stars at another Hy-Vee signing, Grabast and Pence hoped to hit all five locations Saturday.

And while the contestants spent much of the morning in the glare of flash bulbs and posing with fans, Cyndi Maw and her son, Matt, offered the stars a bit of a break.

Rather than pointing a camera at the cast members, the Maws presented seven contestants with disposable cameras of their own.

"I thought it'd be fun," Cyndi Maw said. "This way, they can take pictures of each other, too."

And Matt got autographs on the tiki torch bought especially for the event.

Autograph collector Brad Adden visited two Hy-Vees in search of more autographs to add to his collection -- the most famous of which came from Joe Montana.

And it doesn't hurt that he's a fan of the show.

"They're great," he said while standing in a line that twisted well into the produce department. "Everyone's been very friendly."

Manthey and Richter said meeting the throngs of fans was fun, but even better, they said, was interacting with all the other cast members -- 35 of the 64 turned out for "Survivor Fest."

"This is the largest collection of `Survivor'people ever," she said. "It's been a crazy, fun-filled reunion."

But Manthey's fame didn't help her get in the door of downtown Lincoln bars Friday night.

See, the 31-year-old Manthey forgot her ID. So while the other "Survivor"contestants in town took in a taste of O Street, Manthey just had to take their word for it.

But except for that small glitch, Manthey said her trip to Lincoln was "almost too much fun."
