From TV Guide:

On the first Survivor, Susan Hawk had to deal with rats and snakes (and those were just the competitors).  So, she figured going to Thailand to report on CBS's next installment of the game for the TV Guide Channel would be a walk in the park.  Boy was she wrong.  By the time she got home, Hawk was seriously ill, stricken with what doctors believe is dengue fever (which is carried by mosquitoes).

"The third night home I was just screaming, and on the fourth day I vomited for five hours straight," she says.  "I was dying."  It took three weeks, but she recovered.  "I feel great now.  I'm so happy to be alive," says Hawk, who just bought Juices Wild, a smoothie bar in Las Vegas, and is now working on her comedy act.

glad Sue is better.  Dengue fever is a really dangerous mosquito borne disease that really screws up your immune system.  In some persons it has permanent effects.

The juice bar sounds wonderful.  Sue has done well because of Survivor.  more than her 15 minutes worth.  Shows that winning is not everything.

We had a major outbreak of dengue fever on Maui this past winter.  People who got it said to remember the very worst flu you ever had, multiply how you felt by 50 and you would know what it is like.

Thank God it was pretty well contained to the Hana area which is not real heavily populated.  Haven't heard of any recent cases.
