From the FOX site:
Self-proclaimed “ugly ducklings” are given the unique opportunity to realize their dreams on THE SWAN, an unscripted series that turns a fairy tale into reality. In its first season, THE SWAN became the No. 1 makeover show on television among Adults 18-49.

THE SWAN takes women who are stuck in a rut and revitalizes them by revealing their beauty and confidence. It offers them an incredible opportunity to undergo physical, mental and emotional transformations and follows them through the process. This groundbreaking series culminates in a spectacular pageant in which one woman ultimately is crowned “The Swan.”

Each contestant is assigned a team of specialists – a coach, therapist, trainer, cosmetic surgeon, and dentist – who work together to design the ideal individually tailored program for her. The team assists the contestants in an overall transformation that is not just about physical change.

Two contestants, who compete for a place in the pageant finale, are featured in every episode. The reveals of their individual transformations are especially dramatic because the women are not permitted to see themselves in a mirror during the three-month process. Thus, not only do they find out who has been selected to compete in the Swan Pageant and who will go home to her family, but they see themselves anew for the first time.

The Swan Reunion: Where Are They Now?
by Brian Towers -- 10/26/2004
Reality News Online

It’s time for a second edition of The Swan! But before we see the first two ladies get transformed, we look back at the Swans of the first season, who gather for a reunion and to update them on the changes their lives have seen.

Season 2 of Fox’s hit series The Swan begins with two one-hour episodes. First up is a “Where Are They Now?” episode with last year’s contestants, and also a preview of this year’s show. The second hour is really the first episode of the new season, with two new swans vying for a spot in The Swan Pageant. Let’s take a look at the reunion first, and the first episode of the new season will follow shortly.

The first episode starts with a quick montage of scenes from season one while my buddy, the voiceover-guy, tells us what the show is about. In case you’ve forgotten what happened last year, it was this: A nationwide search reviewed over 200,000 applicants, “each looking to fulfill their fantasies of going from ugly ducklings … to beautiful swans.” Utilizing the skills of “a world-class team of experts,” over four million dollars was spent transforming the 16 ladies into swans. They were subjected to radical plastic surgery, cosmetic dentistry, intense therapy, grueling physical training, and hardcore personal coaching … all without seeing themselves in the mirror until their final reveal.

Then, nine of them were put into what is called, “the most-watched beauty pageant in America,” and winner Rachel Love-Frasier was declared “The Swan” and allowed to wear what could only be described as a most unusual crown. But they were all winners.

Oh, there was more. Voiceover-guy is in good form tonight, there is so much hyperbole in that opening I start feeling a little diabetic. I’m going to eat a cracker.

Returning series host Amanda Byrum is introduced. She’s wearing an unusual violet item … but this show isn’t about the clothes, so let’s move on. After telling us the premise of the show – we’re revisiting the swans, folks – Amanda segues to a series of clips about each of the swans and what they’re up to now. The general format is they show a clip of the swan, then, they come on stage for a word or two with Amanda. Here’s what we learn:

Very emotional Kelly A., who had a bad childhood, is up first. She’s doing just fine, and she smiles all the time now. Her boyfriend proposed to her and they are engaged now. She says she’s found her inner peace.
Belinda’s story is next. Belinda used to be a swan and even worked as a model at one time. She used to have “a perfect body” but developed a bad self-image after two failed marriages. Belinda made great use of the punching bag in her gym/therapy sessions, and now she has a new boyfriend, Brian. She looks bigger than the size 8 she professes to be, but, whatever.
Pageant runner-up Beth was upset how childbirth left her body. She also had trust and marital issues with Dan, her unfaithful husband. To my surprise they are still married. She’s put on some weight as well. There’s a clip of her going jogging, but the tracksuit looks awfully new to me.
Next is a brief segment on Kathy, who had a poor track record for finishing what she has started. She no longer feels like “an awkward 16-year-old.” She’s working in fashion.
Cindy felt she “looked like a witch” because of her prominent nose. She also had to shave her face every day with an electric razor. She wanted her sex life to go from “blah” to “shick-a-bam!” Now, she works for Fox in San Diego, models for a new clothing line, does not shave daily, and thinks her nose is perfect. Boyfriend Ken is still in the picture and likes her newfound confidence as well as the physical changes.
Marnie’s next. Marnie was a single mom who never dated and had lost her zest for life. She had trouble staying motivated at times, not wanting to wear the jaw support. In the end, she was gorgeous and I thought she might win the pageant. Well, there’s your confirmation that I don’t have any decent inside information. Anyway, Marnie is no longer dateless!
When Kelly B. was in the third grade, “a few of the boys” teased her about her nose and it’s bothered her ever since. Boyfriend Ethan didn’t seem to offer much support for Kelly last time around, but now they’re engaged! This one surprises me too, but they seem to be happy. We never do learn how her hopes for a job as a professional cheerleader (for which she had to gain weight and strength) worked out, so I’m guessing, “not.”
Sarina described herself as the “Ultimate Plain Jane.” But her real problems were in her inability to put her loser ex (Lucky) behind her. Now, she says, “He’s a good person and we’re friends, but beyond friendship – I’m not sure.” This one, I’m a little worried about, a refresher with Dr. Ianni seems indicated.
Merline has deaf parents and always puts others first. She was also flat-chested, and had some non-trivial dental issues. Now, she smiles a lot more. Her relationship with her boyfriend has improved, and they got engaged two weeks before the show taped. She’s working less and taking better care of herself, and feels that the therapy was the best part of the program for her. I suspect that’s really the truth for most of them.
Next is Dawn, and her extreme dental problems. Dawn’s story was that “sometimes she feels like the ugly duckling.” Although she also had some trouble with the diet, she came out of it wonderfully and is now inspiring her own family to eat right. Amazingly (and this overused word does belong here), her teenage son has lost 45 pounds!  Andrea was a crier who was full of excuses and denials. To treat her acne scars, she had CO2 treatments that left her face looking like fresh roadkill. Since the show, she has broken up with her boyfriend, Brian, and now she’s happier. Tip for Belinda, above: check the last name of your new boyfriend Brian with Andrea!
Next is a brief segment on Kristy. Kristy and her husband Jake both had military backgrounds. Many of her problems stemmed from the fact that her mom blocked attempts by her father to make contact, but this is not addressed tonight. All we know is that she can put on her make-up and go out on her own now. This segment is kind of unsatisfying.
Cristina wanted to be a belly-dancer for her husband, but was embarrassed by her saggy tummy. During the show she struggled mightily with both recovery and diet. Well, now she belly dances in public, plus, she models.
Tawnya had suffered several hard knocks in the last three years and was reeling from the blows. Her self-confidence was very low. I liked Tawnya, not just because she liked the punching bag but because she didn’t agree with all the proposed procedures. It probably cost her a deserved spot in the pageant. Now, she’s trying to break into acting.
Lastly, we come to Rachel, the Swan. Her dad never expected much from Rachel, and she also had self-image problems. We learn Rachel was the heaviest of the swans, thus had the most weight to lose. These days, mostly she’s just being The Swan, which means lots of public appearances. Husband Mike, who was a total unsupportive ass during the show, is alleged to be much more supportive now. He gave her roses. Well, she did win a car … a Jaguar, in fact …
