Michigan 'Survivors' won't relive roles

Keith Famie and 9-year-old Adam Rose of Macomb hang loose in Kona, Hawaii, where Famie competed in the Ironman Triathlon to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Keith Famie was asked whether he wanted to be part of the next installment of Survivor. Nah, he said: Hed rather swim 2.4 miles, bicycle 112 miles and run a 26.2-mile marathon, all in one day.

Mike Skupin of White Lake, Michigans other highly famous Survivor contestant, apparently also was approached for Survivor: All-Stars, which will get a rousing send-off from CBS after the Super Bowl on Feb. 1.

To be precise, says his sister, he was told hed be on the show. Then at the last minute, he was gonged, and hes less than happy about it.

Thats not to say hes hungry for more fame, any more than hes hungry for weevils or tree frogs or whatever else they ate in Survivor: The Australian Outback three years ago.

The glittery portion of the experience, in fact, has become the least appealing for both players. The reality show opened some doors for them, but when doors are open, theres not much privacy inside.

Chef Famie, 44, declined to apply for a spot on All-Stars, which features players from the programs first seven camping trips to nowhere. His dad was ailing he died Dec. 3 and Famie didnt dare spend most of two months on an island in the Gulf of Panama.

Besides, he was booked to compete in the Ironman Triathlon in Hawaii on Oct. 18, plunk in the middle of filming. Raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, he completed the course in a breezy 16 hours and 26 minutes, pushing a 9-year-old Macomb leukemia patient named Adam Rose across the finish line in a wheelchair.

I had my fun with the show, Famie says, if you can call 39 days without a shower fun, but now hes on to a new and even more perilous adventure remodeling his house. He bought a spec home in Novi and immediately ripped out the kitchen.

Famie parlayed Survivor into a Food Network series thats now in reruns. Hes also marketing cookbooks and a line of seasonings see www.famie.com and is happy to keep Survivor on the back burner.

Skupin, 41, checked out of the show early after he toppled hands-first into a fire. A former triathlete himself, he likes challenges, says sister Kathy Skupin-Qualy. He doesnt like to leave things unfinished.

Ergo, she says, he agreed to take part not only in Survivor: All-Stars but the version before that and got left at the altar both times.

Skupins contract status with the show is unclear, so he cant speak for himself for fear of violating a confidentiality clause. A CBS spokeswoman said she knew diddly-squat about casting decisions but she would forward an e-mail to Survivor producers, who are busy launching a series and didnt respond.

If the Survivor who killed a pig has one beef with the show, Skupin-Qualy says, its that he cleared his schedule twice for no reason.

Pre-Survivor, Skupin was a success in sales and software. Now he gives speeches, an offshoot of celebrity that suits him more than it did his wife.

Peni Skupin didnt sign up for fame, he has said. The guy she married didnt need a Web site with his name on it www.mikeskupin.com and strangers didnt call at all hours or drive by his house to stare.

Theyve been divorced a year not that hes whining, Skupin-Qualy says, about that or anything else.

Skupin-Qualy recalls her brother reading an interview with Detroit Lions quarterback Joey Harrington, who seemed pouty about the demands of being a football star.

This is the landscape he chose, Skupin said, much as he chose a televised adventure in the Australian boondocks.

You go through life with no guarantees, his sister says. And there, unlike Survivor, is reality.

Fit The Nike Harden Shoes Kyrie 3 fits true to size. Wide footers may find them to be a bit on the narrow side so going up 1/2 KD 9 Shoes size may be required for some.The lockdown fit my feet perfectly from heel to forefoot. The throat of the shoe is simple, but Kd 8 extremely effective. While the heel is nice and secure and the ankle structure allows for a pain-free fit. There isnt much else to say. They fit TTS and I felt locked in the entire time without a single issue. Well, a minor nitpick would Kobe 1 be the laces. Theyre so damn long. Nitpick complete.
