Winning the Fast Forward meant Gina and Sylvia could immediately travel to the first Pit Stop, the Hacienda San Gabriel de Las Palmas, a 475-year-old former monastery, using the van provided for them.

Meanwhile, the other Teams departed on their assigned buses and headed to Tequesquitengo Airfield. The first bus, with Derek/Drew, Heather/Eve, Ken/Gerard and Aaron and Arianne, arrived at 10:00 am, just as the second bus was leaving the Hotel de Cortes. Racing off the bus, Derek/Drew maintained their lead and were the first Team to arrive at the Detour.

A Detour offers the Teams a choice between two methods of getting to the next route marker. Teams could skydive from an airplane at 10,000 feet, landing them directly at the next route marker, or they could take a much less harrowing, yet slower, donkey cart ride over seven miles of terrain.

The Detour required Teams to choose between "wings" or "wheels." Wings involved a jump from an airplane at 10,000 feet, skydiving in tandem with an instructor. This would land the Teams at the next Route Marker. Wheels was safer, but slower: Teams choosing this option rode a donkey cart on a seven-mile course with a driver who could speak no English.

BUS #1
1. Derek/Drew
2. Heather/Eve
3. Ken/Gerard
4. Aaron/Arianne

Heather/Eve and Ken/Gerard decided to go for "WINGS", while Derek/Drew and Aaron/Arianne went for "WHEELS".

BUS #2
1. John Vito/Jill
2. Flo/Zach
3. Andre/Damon
4. Michael/Kathy

Flo/Zach and John Vito/Jill decided to do "WINGS", while the others on the second bus went for "WHEELS".

BUS #3
1. Teri/Ian
2. Dennis/Andrew
3. Tramel/Talicia
4. Gina/Sylvia

Gina/Sylvia had taken the Fast Forward, which will lead them directly to the Pitstop. Meanwhile, knowing they were in last place, all three teams on Bus #3 chose to skydive. Then, like the Teams ahead of them, they chose a marked van to drive to the Pit Stop.

Using the Fast Forward paid off for Gina/Sylvia, who were the first Team to arrive at the Pit Stop.

Teams finished their DETOUR and arrived at the PITSTOP in the following positions.

BUS #1
2nd - Ken/Gerard
3rd - Heather/Eve
4th - Derek/Drew
5th - Aaron/Arianne

BUS #2
6th - Flo/Zach
7th - John Vito/Jill
8th - Michael/Kathy
9th - Andre/Damon

BUS #3
10th - Tramel/Talicia
11th - Teri/Ian
12th - Dennis/Andrew

Phil : "Dennis and Andrew, you are the last team to arrive. I'm sorry to tell you that you've been eliminated from the race."

Dennis : "Andrew, buddy, you know I love you. I'm so glad you came to me that one night and said, 'Dad, we gotta do this Race.' And we've done it. We've made the Race."

Andrew : "Throughout the Race, the biggest thing I wanted to change was I wanted my dad to see me as an adult. I've always been his little boy, his child. I just turned 21. I'm stepping out on my own."

After the mandatory twelve-hour rest period, when Teams can mingle, eat and sleep, soccer moms Gina & Sylvia were first to depart from the Hacienda. They soon discovered that they needed to drive 133 miles to the ancient city of Teotihuacán, where they would have to climb 248 steps to the top of the twenty-story Pyramid of the Sun to find the next route marker.

Teams arrived and climbed the Pyramid to discover they were heading to the San Marino Marina in Cancún.

CAUTION : YIELD AHEAD

This is the first of three yields in the entire race. Any team that uses the yield can force another team to stop racing for a pre-determined amount of time.

As the other Teams made their way to Teotihuacán, _________ decided they needed the yield to catch up with the other teams.

Vote for who you want to be yielded now. The team using the yield will be the team who checked in exactly before the yielded team at the previous pitstop.
