OK Mum, come in please and give us an update on the Mr!
I do hope he's had the surgery needed,  kept the toe and is recovering with a good nurse to care for him!

Been so busy!
The MRI showed that the tendon had just creased  and looked severed on Xray, but it is very swollen and inflamed, so no surgery on the big toe.  But the bones are in little pieces so he is not supposed to walk so that these bones can heal and knit together.
The 2nd toe is worse than it looked on Xray, the bones at the last 1/3 of the toe are pulverized (the surgeons words) and must also have rest to heal.
He said a minimum of 10 to 12 weeks to fully heal barring any complications.  So hopefully I can keep him from going too fast and staying off the foot.  It is going to be a rough road ahead!!!  Undecided
Thank you for everyones concern!

Thanks for the update Mum.  You and luci should compare notes on keeping the Mr. down for healing time.

It was easy for me, LL.
I told Mr Luci if he wanted to spend all that time, pain and money to NOT listen to the doctor, then he could be his own nurse!  We had a 'short discussion' on doing what the doctor told him to do!
I will say he has been very good about doctor's orders, for he
thinks now he willl have a better handicap on the golf course.   Roll Eyes

Mum, I do wish for Mr Mum the very best complete recovery.  Since you're a nurse you know the importance of him doing as told.  The only factor weighing in here is, he doesn't!  Men are very stubborn creatures and love to say,
"it won't hurt me if I do this just once!" Oh yes, it will!  And to have bones in pieces, I would think will take every bit as long as his doctor has told  him.

Good Luck Mum, we're pulling for you on this one Cool

How the heck will mr.mum keep from moving those digits.  Are they tightly wrapped?  I keep wanting to say OUCH!  Poor fella is going to have weather predicting toes.

He says they don't hurt.  I've caught him walking without his crutches when I come in from walking the dog!
I told him he's a grown man, and I'm not going to be a cop keeping him off the foot.  But I remember the doc mentioning a cast, so I may suggest a walking cast when we go this Thursday since he doesn't like the crutches!

He isn't on in a walking cast now?  Oh my yes, clue the doctor about him
walking without it.  Next week he'll be heading for the golf course Roll Eyes

He may say now it doesn't hurt but down the road when it hasn't healed properly, you'll be the one to listen to all his whinning and wailing.  Not recovfering as told could land hi in surgery!  Or what if a piece of that crushed bone gets into his blood stream.  He is walking in dangerous territory.  Good Luck Mum Wink

I guess it's hard to splint or immobilize toes.  Even a walking cast has open toes, doesn't it?  Does he have one of those shoes with velcro?  You see them on foot surgery patients all the time.

I think a cast is a brilliant plan.  Those toes really do need to heal and really it's hard to sit still especially when you know you should, and when he's avoiding nails Wink
