Tammy's final chat ...

Hi Tammy, welcome and thanks for being here to chat with us today.

Tammy Leitner: Hi, I'm thrilled to be here!

addams:
Hi Tammy, you were the strongest player I have seen on SURVIVOR. How did you prepare for the show?
You know what, I've always been into sports and athletics so I just kind of upped my workout regimen before I went on the show. I lift a lot of weights, do kickboxing...basically I didn't do anything different to prepare for the show than I do in my normal life.

How did it feel to be voted off? Did you feel you played your best? What would you want to do that you should have done before?
It absolutely SUCKED to get voted off. It's just a horrible feeling. I mean, you're exhausted, emotionally drained, hungry and then to add insult to injury you just lost the game! *laughs* I'm really happy with the way I played the game. There aren't a lot of things I'd do differently, but one thing would be to bring in a strong fifth person into our alliance.

I noticed that when the General said he was going to keep immunity, you made a strange face. Were you hoping that he'd give it to you, since no one really wanted to vote him off?
After Rob won Immunity he gave me a huge hug and whispered in my ear "I'm giving this to you. You're not going anywhere." Rob has a huge heart and I think he meant what he said, but I don't think he was really prepared to give that necklace up and I didn't want him to. I wanted to win the game on my own merit.

Tammy, why do you think that SURVIVOR: MARQUESAS seems to vote off the strongest player every week? Is this a case of the "meek inheriting the earth" or just flip-flopping alliances?
If you look at the six people that are left, they aren't necessarily the most strong physically, the most athletic or obvious leaders. They're people that flew under the radar, didn't make a lot of waves and for whatever reason that strategy worked for them.

Hi Tammy, great playing. What is the move you think hurt you the most?
Thanks and the move that hurt me the most was probably not having a fifth person that we trusted to take us all the way to the end of the game.

Hey Tammy! Do you think it is hypocritical for Neleh and Paschal to judge you as dishonest and untrustworthy simply because you have made an alliance, and yet they themselves are in one?
You know, it was tough when Paschal and Neleh agreed to be part of our alliance and then voted Zoe, John and myself out because they thought we were deceptive for making an alliance and also thought we were arrogant, but the irony of the situation was you're right -- they formed an alliance and voted us out and were more arrogant than we ever would have dreamed of being. I mean the day after they voted John out they were at the waterfall singing and laughing that they'd begun to crumble our alliance.

Tammy, loved you on the show, What was the atmosphere really like when Pappy and Neleh came back from their cruise? Was it jealousy?
I think that there were a few people who were jealous. The rest of us were hungry. *laughs* It was hard to hear about all the food they'd eaten and in great detail when we were so famished ourselves.

Tammy, Did "they" prevent Paschal and Neleh from smuggling food back after catching Paschel and Sean doing it?
The only thing that we were told when they got back from the cruise to the island was that they weren't able to smuggle any food out -- I don't know who told them they couldn't or why but I sure was wishing that they had.

Tammy -- people seem to be pretty critical of your "determined to win attitude." Do you feel that held you back from being close to some of the other Survivors? Do you feel that your clash with Zoe was really both your determination to win?
My determination to win in the game is just who I am. That's the way that I approach my job, my life and if somebody didn't get close to me on the island because of that then that would be their mistake. I mean I hope that nobody out there mistook my determination for a lack of a sincere effort to get to know everyone out there. As far as Zoe is concerned -- anytime you put two strong women in the same group there's bound to be conflicts, and even though Zoe and I were in the same alliance we never really talked or got to know each other. The one time we had an extended conversation she decided to tell me how she really felt about me.

Tammy, do you think Zoe is a b****? Any regrets calling her that? Is there something about her that we did not see on TV that shows her negativity?
*laughs* I don't have any regrets about anything I said or did in the game and at that moment when I called her a b**** I honestly believed she was being a b****. I don't think she is now ; outside the game we're actually friends, but at that moment, yeah, she was being a b****

Would you and Zoe fight in a celebrity boxing match?
Yeah! I'd look forward to meeting Zoe in the ring but I'm telling you right now, I'd beat her.

If you won the Reward Challenge, who would you have brought with you?
I would have taken Rob with me.

Tammy, what's the first food you asked for after leaving Tribal Council?
Actually I didn't ask for this but after I kicked off the first thing I did was take a hot shower and John knocked on the door and stuck his arm in and he had a huge cracker with peanut butter and jelly on it and I stood in the shower and ate it and it was THE best thing I've ever tasted.

Tammy, Sarah said she would be willing to pose for Playboy if the price was right. How about you?
Uh...maybe if they backed up a Brinks truck full of money in front of my house. I have no plans to pose for Playboy but I don't see anything wrong with the magazine.

Were John and Zoe happy to see you or upset you had been kicked out too?
John and Zoe were a great welcoming wagon. They both threw their arms around me and told me how happy they were to see me and that was exactly what I needed at that moment.

Was Vecepia noticeably disappointed that Paschal didn't ask her onto the cruiseship for her birthday?
You know, Vecepia and I didn't really talk about that but I think she was a little bit disappointed.

So Tammy, where did you get your tattoo of the turtle?
I wasn't the one that got a tattoo but nice try.

You did not say goodbye to the group. Was that on purpose or were you just surprised?
That was absolutely on purpose. I had my game face on from day one and I still had it on on day thirty. I wasn't about to turn around and tell them good luck and let them think that it was okay to vote me out.

Hey Tammy! Great technique on the stilts! You were the only one that wrapped your arms around them properly, and focused on balancing more than walking -- did you figure that out during your practice time or had you done stilts before?
This question must come from somebody who knows how to walk on stilts. When I was a kid my dad made me a pair of stilts and I'd walk on them in the back yard while my brother would throw a soccer ball at the stilts and try and knock me off. It was fun and turned out to help me in the game.

Tammy do you have any regrets about voting out Gabe?
No, I don't have any regrets about voting out Gabe. Unfortunately, the viewing world doesn't get to see everything that goes on on the island and a few days into the game Gabe had made an alliance with John and myself and a few days after that he came up to us and said he didn't want anything to do with the alliance and wanted out of it. From that point on both John and I were a little bit skeptical about anything Gabe said or did and we didn't think he could be trusted.

Tammy, congratulations on making it so far, you probably should have gone a bit further. Did you think about joining with Sean and V to oust one of the other 3?
I had talked to V about possibly joining up with us and she didn't seem interested. Unfortunately though, I had not talked to Sean about it and after watching last night's show I wish I had.

Tammy, did John's alliance make you or break you?
John was my partner in crime and I have no regrets about getting into an alliance with him because he was a strong player and I knew that from the beginning, but John was dealt a great hand and didn't have the poker face to pull it off.

Did you 4 realize you came across so confident? That Immunity Challenge in Episode 8 did your foursome in -- didn't you see it coming?
We didn't plan before that Immunity Challenge how we were going to take the other players out. It just kind of happened that way. In hindsight I wish the order hadn't been what it had been. No, we didn't see it coming.

Was there anything that happened on the island that wasn't shown that you would have liked to have been shown?
I wish that they had shown John and my alliance with Gabe and then Gabe breaking our alliance a couple days later because everyone's been asking me why we voted Gabe off but I don't think it came through in any of the episodes.

Tammy, you played a great game and look like you are in incredible shape... did you do any special preparations before leaving for the island, like weight training or bulking up?
Thanks, yeah, I did a lot of weight training, but I'd been doing that before I knew I was on the game. I just increased my workouts when I found out I was on the game. One thing that I did to prepare for the game was my fiancé and I used to go out every couple of days and run wind sprints on a mountain by our house and he would yell at me "This is for immunity! Dig! Dig! Dig!" It got me in the right frame of mind and was good exercise.

Remember the fafaru? how exactly does it smell and taste?
*laughs* The taste wasn't so bad, the smell was honestly like an outhouse at a concert that hundreds and thousands of people had already used that day.

hi tammy! love u on the show! sorry u didn't win... what did u mean when u said Vecepia wasn't pulling her weight? i thought she was one of the hard workers on the show...
No, she wasn't and especially the last couple of days there she wasn't. I don't know if she was depressed because of her birthday or what but she wasn't doing her share. Vecepia was just flying under the radar, just doing enough to get by.

Were you attracted to any of the other contestants?
*laughs* No, absolutely not -- I'm engaged to a great man.

Hello Tammy! Your luxury item was a photo of your fiancé you've been engaged to for 4 years. Are you gonna tie the knot anytime, or can you and I hang-out on my next visit to Mesa on business?
*laughs* Thanks for the invite, I'm flattered but I've only got eyes for one guy. We've actually only been engaged about a year and a half and we're getting married in August.

After Rob and Kathy got trashed at their private beer party and crashed under the bug netting, the camera faded to black. Did you hear what went on between them after the camera was gone?
As far as I know nothing -- they passed out.

Hey Tammy, you said both your boyfriend and yourself applied for the show. Just out of curiosity, what's his job and what was his audition tape like? You were my favorite by the way!
Aw, thank you. Mike works at the newspaper in Arizona where I used to work and his audition tape I filmed for him out in the desert by where we live.

What was the hardest for your family and fiancé to watch while you were on?
The show wasn't difficult for me to watch, I think it was harder for Mike to watch. He's a pretty emotional guy and there were a few times while watching the show that he really got upset when someone would say something negative about me and I had to remind him that this was just a game.

Tammy, I liked you from the start. Gotta like a woman who drinks jack and diet coke!! What did you do to celebrate when you got home?
*laughs* There was a couple weeks or so that I really partied it up!! It was a tough adjustment being back after spending so much time out there on the island in such a harsh situation and an emotionally and mentally draining situation, and when I got back I also spent a lot of quality time with my family.

In your Final Words you said that a lot of the people complained that they wanted to see their family and have food and so on and you said that it was SURVIVOR and that it was a game! Do you feel that some of the castaways came on the show not realizing the true aspect of the game?
I think when it came right down to it there were a few people out there as the time went on to day 28, 29, and 30 who were talking about going home and missing their loved ones and wanted to see their family and I felt like hey, you signed on for SURVIVOR, it's 39 days, play the game -- that's why you're here.

What was the best food you had there?
Ah, that's easy -- when Sean and Paschal won their Reward Challenge they smuggled back some food and they brought back this insane fish that was probably the best fish I'd ever tasted.

Tammy, you suggest that the remaining Survivors have flown under the radar. However, Kathy and Sean have both been targeted multiple times from day 1. What do you think of them? Do you think it is luck or strategy?
I think with Sean it was luck that has kept him in the game and with Kathy I think it was strategy. I think that after a few days out there she realized that she was going to get vote off if she didn't simmer down a bit and if she didn't become a little less abrasive.

On the Early Show, it seemed that you were bitter towards Neleh. Are you on good terms with her now?
Yeah, absolutely. Neleh and I are friends. I'm not bitter. The things that they asked me about on the Early Show were points of contention - I mean, that she offered us her used candy and that she came across as this sweet young girl who was playing the game. But also she's still in the game and I'm not so give her credit.

Did you watch any previous SURVIVORS before you went on?
Yeah, I watched all of them. My fiancé got me hooked on the show and I even taped SURVIVOR AFRICA so I could watch it when I got back. My favorite was definitely SURVIVOR: AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK.

Did you ever want to beat up Jeff Probst for having things so easy while you guys suffered?
*laughs* Noooo...Jeff is a good guy, I mean, he not only plays the role of host really well but he genuinely seemed concerned about all the contestants and what we were going through out there -- both physically and emotionally.

Tammy, how hard was it to go on such little food? Did it ever affect your ability in the challenges?
That was tough for me, the lack of food, and the lack of energy because of the lack of food, and it played a role in the challenges. They don't look tough on TV --they ARE tough, especially when you haven't eaten much.

Tammy, Hi and thank you for chatting with everyone today. What did you really think of Sean and Rob?
*laughs* You know, I love both those guys. Sean and I -- we really had some great talks on the island. I love who he is, I love where he comes from and I love that he tries to be a role model for younger people. Rob is a fun guy who would be a blast to go out and have pizza and a beer with. As far as the game went -- he was there to stir up trouble and did it very well. After the fact, it's fun to watch Rob and his antics but while it was going on it was a little tiring.

What surprised you the most from actually watching the show?
The thing that surprised me the most and was most fun to watch was what the people in Maraamu were doing and saying before the merge because we had no idea what was going on on their side of the island.

Tammy, in your opinion who had the most useful luxury item out there?
I would say for creature comforts it was John and his massage oil and for practicality purpose it was Paschal and his American flag because that definitely helped them win the S.O.S. challenge.

Hey Tammy, as a competitive person, who would you say was your biggest rival out there?
Well, if Hunter had stayed in the game physically and competitively I think he'd have been a huge, huge rival.

Tammy, if you could meet any one of the previous castaways from Survivor I, II, or III, who would it be and why?
Easy -- Alicia. She's totally buff and she's got this attitude that I just love.

Tammy...do you think that CBS is currently portraying how life "really" was on the island or are they just making some crazy storylines and taking things out of context?
*laughs* The producers of the show have done a great job with the editing, honestly I couldn't be more pleased. I think it's accurate, fair and a compelling portrayal of what actually went on.

Did you hear Sean & Rob's comments, while you were serving them food?
*laughs* Hell no! I probably would have thrown the food at 'em if I'd heard it. I was pissed when I saw it but then a minute later when they showed me making the comment about voting them off I was fine with it.

They showed Boston Rob arguing with everyone but you. Did you intimidate him?
*laughs* Of course, didn't I intimidate everybody out there? No, seriously, Rob and I had our share of arguments it just didn't happen to make the show.

are you ready for Letterman?
*laughs* Uh...yeah! It's probably the easiest of all these interviews -- or seems like it will be at least. It will be only a few minutes long and if they ask me about any monkeys on the island it should be pretty simple.

Tammy, 2 questions, what was it like to find out you made SURVIVOR? And how was the adjustment after it was over?
It was incredible when I found out I'd made the show, but stressful. I was totally paranoid that somebody, one of the two hundred reporters that I work with, was going to find out I was on the show. The adjustment after was really tough. It's a stressful thing that you go through and in some cases life-changing. I took some life lessons back from the show and it was hard to become a normal, functioning member of society again.

Tammy, are you still a crime reporter or are you gonna try for a TV/movie/entertainment career?
*laughs* I quit my job as a crime reporter at an Arizona newspaper to go on the show. I've been finishing my first true crime book about a serial rapist. When I signed up for SURVIVOR I never had any aspirations of signing on with Hollywood -- I love what I do. I'm a crime reporter.

Survivor Host: Unfortunately, we're all out of time with Tammy today. Tammy, thanks so much for being here to chat with us. Do you have any final comments for the SURVIVOR fans?
Thanks so much guys for your support and I hope you all continue enjoying the show!

Just a thought, is it possible someone approached Robert and changed his mind about his chances of staying by offering him a future alliance?

While anything is possible I just don't see it.  Who would gain from having him around?  You basically have 2/2 with Pappy and Neleeah on one side and Sean/V on the other.  Kathy is just hanging around.  At this point even if 2 of them swung over with Robert, the other three would be voting for him.  It would be a tie and the shit would hit the fan.  If I were Sean and Vee, I would rather have the emotional wacko known as Kathy, the old man Pappy and the frail lil princess to compete with as opposed to Rob.  On the other hand you have Kathy who cannot do anything alone in this kind of situation and then Pappy and the princess.    Now, Rob hasn't been strong so far so if anything then Kathy, Pappy and Neleeah might get together just to get Sean out of it for fear of his ability to win a challenge.  But like Rob, Sean hasn't really done jack.

If Kathy wants to win, she needs to shift sides and boot Pappy and Neleh.  She stands a much bigger chance of winning the jury over Sean or Vee.  Robert will go next.

I follow the logic of Kathy being the swing vote and all, but so was Gabe back in the days of Robfather.. some people can't be swung.  And it sure sounds like SOMETHING changed Robert's mind.

I agree some people can't be swung, but Kathy was sure doing a lot of bitching about Neleh in the last episode.  Kathy was closest to Zoe of all the people out there, but she still voted against her when it came time strategically.

That comment makes me wonder how long Neleh is gonna stay ... it's usually the "kiss of death" for a survivor to have something like that said about you during a final chat, isn't it?  I hope I"m wrong, 'cause I really want Neleh to win, but it does make me wonder ...   Huh
