First let me say, this is a good movie!  My daughter (21yo) and I went to see it this morning and we both liked it!  So, it does appeal to all ages.  However, we also agreed that those of us who are old enough to facing our mortality, may appreciate it a little more than those who would more closely identify with the younger "the world is my oyster" Rocky.

I described it as a "coming of age movie" for the older generation.  It is reality jumping up in your face to let you know that we're all mortal, and even the Italian Stallion has to face the one opponent that we can't win against... age.  And even when inside we don't feel that we're "old" those creaky joints when we crawl out of bed in the morning, remind us.. ."yes you are!"  Rocky is there, complete with creaky joints.  He's just a guy who was a champion, who has moved on, has a business, a kid, he's loved and lost love, he's "real."  He's what we all are... he is "everyman."  He's not rich, he's just a guy who has what he needs and is willing to share what he has with those who need it.  He gives back to the community, he doesn't forget who he was or where he came from, nor how fast you can rise to the top, then fall right back down to being a "regular Joe."  But he also shows us, that no matter where you are in life.. be the best you can be!  I think that's the one message that has been in all of the movies (even the lame ones!)

That was another thing we discussed, how the Rocky movies have sort of reflected Stallone's career/life.  The first one was definitely a "young nobody making a name for himself" which is where Stallone was in his career at that time.  In the second one, he not only now has the name, but he's successful enough to be on top (and win the fight).  The third one, he's now the star,  the guy to replace, and Mr. T is the young up and coming star who wants his place.  The following ones, in my opinion were pointless and lame, sort of like most of the movies Stallone made during the midpoint of his career, after Rocky and First Blood.  This one, is very much a "I may not be the star, but I'm still in the game" type of movie... which I feel is where Stallone is in life.  I may not be the star I used to be, but I'm still here and I can still hold my own against any new kid on the block.

I liked it!  Alot!

INDEED...couldn't sum it up better myself.  i'm a fan of the series, yes even the 'lame' ones - well, the one with Tommy Gun was pretty lame but a small part of me still liked it.  anyway, i really felt this last Rocky as a great, heartfelt way to conclude the saga.  Rock on!
