Newbie question

I have never seen this show, it came on at the same time as Smallville and I made my choice LOL

Anyway, ABC is showing reruns of it and I am really interested in watching this show, as everyone has said how great it is.

Here is my question: I missed the first episode cuz i didn't know they were rerunning them.  Can i catch up with relative ease, or will I be hopelessly lost?  Trying to decide if i should try again next week.

You can catch up - the first episode is basically the plane crash.  It introduces the characters and let's you know there's a monster in the woods.  The only important bit of information you really get in the first epi is when they find the pilot in the woods and he tells them that they were off course and if anyone is looking for them, they're looking in the wrong place.  Then the monster gets him and he gets killed.

There are 14 main characters
Jack - the doctor (Matthew Fox)
Kate - the girl with brown hair who hangs out with him (Evageline Lilly)
Charlie - the English guy - boy band (Dominic Monaghan)
Sawyer - hot guy, blonde hair (Josh Holloway)
Hurley - the big guy (Jorge Garcia)
Locke - the bald guy (Terry O'Quinn)
Sun - the Korean woman (Yunjin Kim)
Jin - the Korean Guy (Daniel Dae Kim)
Claire - Pregnant Aussie woman (Emilie de Raven)
Boone - hot guy, brown hair (Ian Somerhalder)
Shannon - b*tchy sister of Boone (Maggie Grace)
Sayid - Iraqi guy (Naveen Andrews)
Michael - Guy with kid (Harrold Perrineau, Jr.)
Walt - the kid (Malcom David Kelley)

There's also a woman named Rose whose life Jack saved in the first episode, she shows up again later.  She was sitting next to Jack on the plane when it went down, hubby was in the bathroom.  And a guy with a piece of metal stuck in him who is unconcious.

Trying to remember if there was anything else relevant in the first episode (I watched it for the fourth time last night.. I need a life)  The best thing about this show, having seen all the episodes - I can still watch then again and again.  There's always something you missed.  Or, after you've seen them all and go back and watch again, you pick up on things that were "clues" that you will figure out later on.  It's like a HUGE puzzle - which is why I think I like it so much.

Enjoy!

I to did not watch LOST this past season because something else was always on I wanted to watch more.
I watched the re-run of the pilot episode last week and had forgotten it was coming on again tonight!I'm so glad I saw your post to remind me.
I was completely drawn into the show, and cannot wait to see more.

I"m so obsessed I've got print copies of the transcripts so I can go back and re-read, just in case I miss something... Sad

I really need to get over this.. can't wait until I can buy the DVD's... they come out JUST before the beginning of season 2.  We've decided we're buying them and going through scene by scene before we watch the second season..

life?  What's that??

Who's the guy with schrapnel?

You aren't supposed to know yet who he is... more details about him next week.

Who's the chubby kid?

Hugo "Hurley" Reyes

Whose the girl with the pedicure?

Shannon - she and Boone are brother and sister

English guy - Charlie - (he was Merry in Lord of the Rings)
Quote:

He's Jin; she's Sun.

Don't give up on it yet... even if you aren't hooked.  Next week is a bit slow also - background information on Kate and it's a bit slow, at least it was for me the first time... knowing what I know NOW, I'm anxious to see it again - it wasn't replayed anytime during the regular season.  The one that will hook you in, like Rhune said, is episode 4 "Walkabout."  Definitely the one that made me ask "Where the heck are these people??"
