This movie is rather interesting - filmed in documentary style, it tells of the non-humans coming to Earth, settling over Johannesburg, and how they are housed in District 9 (it reminded me of the slums black South Africans were forced to live in during apartheid - matter of fact, the whole thing was reminiscent of Apartheid!).  The MNU is sent in to relocate the non-humans (Prawns, as they call them) to District 10 and needless to say, the relocation does not go well...

I found it intriguing, but disturbing.  I would not recommend taking children (it is rated R, but there were lots of kids in the movie, and I noticed lots of folks with kids left about 30 mins in when it started getting really violent.

It is a movie that makes you think, and disgusts you to think the extent to which people and governments will go to in the name of "science and research."

Yes I saw it.. it was VERY bloody, gory - but I liked it, it was an interesting story/concept.  I think I'd have to describe it as more interesting/makes you think, than "entertaining."

Okay.  I watched it.  The only problem I had with it was the main character.  He reminded me of a Monty Python character. (You know what I mean?  Nudge, nudge.  Wink, wink)

As for the story, I would hope we wouldn't treat the aliens the way they did or do the things they did to them, but if the accounts of Area 51 are to be believed, it looks like we may already have done that.

I've heard it was a very depressing film to watch...well done but not exactly a cheering up film.

I agree about the main character.. he seemed a little to "happy" to be evicting the aliens... and then when his circumstances changed, he had a very different attitude.  It was depressing, but it really makes you think, as Ex-Isle said about the way the aliens were treated...
