'Push, Nevada' Creators Will Explain Game

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - The creators of "Push, Nevada" will explain how to look for clues that could lead to a $1 million-plus prize during a rebroadcast of the show's first episode next week.

The show will debut at a special time, 9 p.m. ET Tuesday (Sept. 17). The first episode will re-air at 8 p.m. ET Thursday, Sept. 19, preceding a new episode in its regular 9 p.m. Thursday slot.

The repeat of the premiere will feature an introduction by creators Ben Affleck and Sean Bailey that discusses how the game works. Clues embedded in each show lead viewers playing the game to a particular bit of information they need to take from that episode.

The premiere, for instance, is titled "The Amount," so viewers will be looking to figure out the exact amount of money that was stolen.

Those pieces of information will add up to reveal the location of the hidden loot -- more than $1 million in cash. The interactive mystery mirrors the plot of the show, in which an IRS agent (Derek Cecil) tries to track money stolen from a casino in Push.

The rebroadcast will also use graphics to highlight the possible clues.

'Push,' 'That Was Then' Become First Casualties of New Season

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - ABC, struggling to turn around last season's dismal ratings performance, has suffered a setback in that effort.

The network became the first this season to cancel one of its new shows, giving the ax to underperforming drama "Push, Nevada." Freshman drama "That Was Then" is also taking a leave of absence from the fall schedule, although the network refuses to say it's cancelled, preferring to put it on hiatus with the intention of bringing it back at a different day and time later in the season.

While ABC has enjoyed success with its new comedies -- "8 Simple Rules," "Life with Bonnie" and "Less than Perfect" have all been picked up for a full season -- the dramas have struggled. In addition to two pulled series, the hospital drama "MDs" is last in its timeslot on Wednesday nights.

"Push, Nevada" debuted to a solid 12 million viewers on Tuesday, Sept. 17, a week before the official start of the fall season. Since moving to its regular 9 p.m. Thursday spot, however, it's been hammered by CBS' "CSI" and NBC's "Will & Grace" and "Good Morning Miami." It's averaging only 5.6 million viewers in that spot.

"That Was Then," meanwhile, earned the dubious distinction of being the lowest-rated series on any of the four major networks in the young season, pulling in an average of just 4.3 million viewers in its two airings at 9 p.m. Fridays.

"Both 'That Was Then' and 'Push, Nevada' are creatively very strong, but we were simply unable to attract a mass audience for them," says Susan Lyne, ABC's entertainment president. "We want viewers of 'Push' to see the outcome of Prufrock's investigation, and airing it through the seventh episode will give closure to the storyline."

"As for 'That Was Then,' it was a good show in a bad time period. We have six remaining episodes that we fully anticipate trying in a different time slot later on."

"Push, Nevada" will continue to air until Thursday, Oct. 24. The show, from Ben Affleck's production company, LivePlanet, has an interactive element in which viewers can find clues to where a million-dollar prize is hidden. The final episode will likely contain enough clues for people to locate the money. The revised rules will be posted soon on abc.com.

Starting this Friday, Oct. 11, "America's Funniest Home Videos" will expand to two hours for the next two weeks. On Oct. 25, a Winnie the Pooh and Charlie Brown Halloween special will air from 8 to 9 p.m. ET, followed by "AFHV."

As of Friday, Nov. 8, "The Drew Carey Show" and "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" will move to Fridays beginning at 9 p.m. ET from their Monday slot preceding "Monday Night Football."

"The pairing of 'Drew' and 'Whose Line' with 'Monday Night Football' made great sense from a demographic viewpoint," says Lyne, referring to the mostly male audience all three bring in to the network, "but clearance issues due to football really impacted their numbers. Drew has been such an important creative force on ABC -- we hope longtime fans of both his series will rediscover them on Friday nights."

Starting Monday, Nov. 18, the Tony Shalhoub mystery series "Monk" will move to Mondays at 8 p.m. ET from its current Thursday slot.

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Next week's final episode of "Push, Nevada" will lay out the show's remaining weekly clues to help viewers determine how to find the interactive mystery's $1 million-plus prize.

Armchair sleuths will have to wait, however, for the "Final Clue," which will be broadcast on ABC sometime in the week after Thursday's (Oct. 24) "Push" finale airs.

ABC announced the cancellation of the anemically rated series last week, but since the show's producers -- Touchstone TV and LivePlanet, the company headed by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon -- are obligated to give away the money, the network couldn't yank it right away.

Thus, the finale will contain the weekly clues from the six episodes that will never make it to the airwaves. The episode will also give viewers a date and approximate time for the broadcast of the final clue, which they will need to complete the puzzle and enter the contest. Entries will be taken for six hours after the broadcast of the final clue.

New Jersey Man Wins Million-Dollar 'Push' Prize

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - A 24-year-old from West New York, N.J., was the first person to figure out the "Push, Nevada" puzzle and has claimed the $1 million-plus prize associated with the canceled ABC series.

Mark Nakomoto, an assistant editor at a publishing firm, figured out the puzzle less than two minutes after the game's final clue was broadcast Oct. 28, during "Monday Night Football." The final clue completed a coded message that corresponded to a phone number.

Nakomoto was the quickest to call in, which earned him the $1,045, 000 prize. Thousands of people eventually figured out the clues. About 500 callers got through in the first 20 minutes, and more than 10,000 called within 24 hours.

"Push, Nevada," which got hammered in the ratings on Thursday nights, followed an IRS agent (Derek Cecil) as he tried to uncover the mystery of a casino theft in the town of Push. Clues to the game were embedded in each episode, and the game also had several online elements.

The show ended its run on Oct. 24.
