Chip & Kim - TAR5 Winners!

Biography

Chip & Kim have been married for over 25 years, are raising three children and reside in Coto de Caza, California. They met at a party in the summer of 1978. Kim caught Chip's eye as she was on the dance floor doing "the freak" in her Jordache jeans. When Chip introduced himself to Kim and asked if he could treat her to a drink of her choice, she flatly refused. He was undaunted, however, and kept persisting, finally obtaining her phone number. At first, Kim was not interested in Chip at all, but over time, he managed to change her image of him, especially when she saw him two months later cruising down Crenshaw Boulevard in his brand new royal blue 280Z sports car.

Kim is the owner of an information technology recruiting company. She says that her proudest accomplishment is marrying Chip and having their three children, Elon, Phillip III and Kristen. She says that she and her teammate are soul mates with the same life goals who want the best for each other.

Chip is the owner of a web technology company. Aside from marrying Kim, he said his second biggest accomplishment was finishing college at age 38. He said he most resembles boxer George Foreman, minus his money, and his wife looks like Olympic runner Florence Griffith Joyner!

Chip & Kim say they decided to apply for THE AMAZING RACE 5 because "several of our friends and family members have made calls to us to express their strong feelings as to why we should be on the show. That is why we started watching. Now, THE AMAZING RACE is our favorite show."

---------------------------------------------------------------

Before the Race Interview
When and where did you meet?
Chip: We officially met at a party in the recreation room of the Oakwood Garden Apartments in Marina Del Rey in 1978. I was so spellbound with Kim's beauty that, though she was not overwhelmed with me, I persisted to get her phone number…then her heart. I saw the diamond in the rough.

If you could describe your relationship in one phrase or sentence, what would it be?
Chip: We praise God that we have one of the most healthy and happy marriages that we know of. By design, Kim and I spend approximately 23 hours a day together. We work, play, exercise, eat, party, sleep, love, laugh, argue, fuss and strategize together. We are soul mates, due to our life priorities.

Have you ever traveled together before? If so, what were the best and worst aspects of traveling together?
Chip: We have traveled together throughout many of the United States, Hawaii included. We have also traveled to Jamaica, Cancun, the Bahamas and Virgin Islands. We love most aspects of traveling together. Since I am a large individual, I am especially uncomfortable sitting in very small coach seats.

Why did you decide to team up for THE AMAZING RACE?
Chip: One of our favorite television shows is THE AMAZING RACE. Also, Kim and I are very competitive. We always aim to win at anything in which we participate. Kim absolutely loves to travel, and I love to compete in athletic competitions. So it was natural for us to want to participate in THE AMAZING RACE.

As you begin the Race, how do you think this experience will affect your relationship?
Chip: Kim and I have absolutely no expectations as far as THE AMAZING RACE affecting our relationship. We know that we have a strong relationship going into it.

What strengths and weaknesses do you bring to the Team?
Chip: I am an ex-athlete (not professional). I can do most athletic things well. I also have good people skills. I am the heart of our Team. I make certain that others are well managed while we win. My weakness is that I may care too deeply for my competitors because they can't win too.

What strengths and weaknesses does your teammate bring to the Team?
Chip: Kim is a fierce competitor: she must win! Kim is also the consummate strategist. She is the brains and passion of our Team. She is unable to discuss anything less than winning it all; she is a winner! Kim's weakness is that she may not consider other competitors' feelings.

These guys are my pick to be eliminated first. Neither seem that fit, or ready to race around the world. Both will be able to drag their team down.

I actually think this team will do pretty well because I think that unlike other teams, they'll most likely get along and agree on things.

Hmmm. They are always in the back of the pack for some reason. Tey never was ahead until the very end of the race and even then they fell way behind! I really won't like them if they pick a fight with the Evil Kwins. lol

These two grated me the wrong way in the first couple espisodes, but I feel like they've really improved in the last two.  Chip was downright likeable in the last one.

Chip and Kim have seemed to enjoy the race every
step of the way, so far!  We wish them well and
to finish the race first.  They've kept a good attitude most of the way and if Kim has ever complained it has not been shown on TV.  Good Luck you two Cool

Now about Chip. Kim is right, they have to take care of their money, because it wouldn't be everyday when they come across a cab driver who accepts a payment less than what he expects.

Also, in the preview for the next epi, are they one of the teams racing to get the FF?

Sad Yeah, and I read at the CBS site that it might be only one team who'll use it.

I think Chip and Kim, if ever they take the FF, can accomplish it (shaving off all your hair, according to TAR site) because, obviously Chip is bald already, and for Kim, er, she always wear that bandanna/handkerchief on her head, so it wouldn't be too obvious that she's bald. And they would look cute.  Grin

way to go chip and kim! i do admire them for having the courage to use the YIELD. although all teams agreed to yield C+C,  i think brandon held back a little, and the moms were hesitant to do it themselves so they let chip do the dirty work. i was so elated to see colin at the sidelines, waiting for the sand timer to run out, seething his guts off. he could've burned something with his eyes with the way he was looking at the other teams. HAHAHAHA! Smiley

Yet somehow, I worry it's going to backfire on Chip and Kim.  Earlier on the show, they kept saying what you put out in the world is what you get back.  Well, yielding Colin and Christie could be a negative(put out in the world), particulary since they couldn't be eliminated anyway.  They might have felt some satisfaction in putting the breaks on Colin and Christie, but it didn't really get them much.  First in four isn't all that big a gap.

Actually I feel it was a smart move first they didnt know it was a non elim round. Second as Chip said they are a STRONG team! Anything they can do to slow them down would help them in race. They really had no choice and if they had not done it Brandon would have. It was only smart move to make. Colin and Christie have been leading race almost entire time anything to slow them down is smart in my eyes

Good job Chip and Kim! At least he has the guts to Yield Colin and Christie. But C&K must now face Colin's wrath.

This won't be good.  Sad I'm thinking they might get eliminated next.

Colin's temper and attitude could be their downfall now for first time they will need friends or at friendly natives now that they have no money.

CONGRATULATIONS CHIP AND KIM!!!  Cool Cool Cool

You deserve to win the Amazing Race! You're the only team who didn't finish last! And you know you're own strength and weaknesses, you were supportive of each other, AND, you didn't forget to appreciate every place and country that you visit. You took time to see the beauty in every city, in every people you meet. Thank you for giving us the BEST SEASON of THE AMAZING RACE!

I followed the show off and on but I was rooting for them. Like they said the one guy, think it was Colin, messed up. If I were in that spot I don't think I could sleep that final night heading into Texas. I would have been up all night making sure I had the flight secured and I was one step ahead of the others.

Turned out to be real close in the end. I wonder exactly how far behind the others were?

I felt bad for the bowling moms. They really worked the hardest out of all of them in my mind and my hats off to them for all the hard work and determination they showed.

I think it was just in the editing, but Chip and Kim might be ahead of Colin and Christie by 10+ minutes. Brandon and Nicole arrived much later, I assume about 30 or 40 minutes after Chip and Kim.

Yes. I think the RoadBlock was put there to ensure that all the teams (or at least one of their members) in top three are physically fit. If Charla and Mirna made it to the top four, I don't think they'll get past this, unless their ahead by 1+ hour. But they couldn't have that lead since the chartered flights only have 45 minutes difference in them...

Speaking of the chartered flight, what if Colin and Christie (or any other teams) were ahead by more than 6 hours? Their lead will just go ka-pooft? Unfair!!!

If it wasn't for the hours of operation at the pyramids of egypt (there are no Hours of operation, TAR production did that to stop Colin & christie from getting too ahead).  Colin & Christie would have gotten the 10:00 PM flight to luxor, and would be about 16-20 hours ahead of the other teams.

Chip & Kim were at the bottom in the beginning.  And I actually liked them until they yielded colin & christie.  I got really mad after that (only 2 episodes...lol).

I agree.  It isn't fair if a team got so far ahead of all the others, then it's difficult to keep track of and eventually Phil would have to wait for the last team to arrive while the first team already departed and halfway through the next leg, like in TAR 1.  I didn't see TAR 1 but I know what happened.  And it made a very unfair ending.

i basically liked chip and kim for the most of the race. but i kinda hated them (or the way they were portrayed) in the last episode.

i  mean, there was chip saying he didn't care if he had to lie to everybody (it just irked me more because they almost fooled brandon and nicole; and yes i know lying is part of the game, it just irks me, okay?). and when they were in the calgary airport looking all smug about their airline tickets when they only got it because they were too slow in the first place! to my way of thinking, they only won because of luck.

but, maybe it's better this way. at least colin and christie didn't win.

Funny that you say that Sneeze. My wife was complaining about Colin telling his insane driver to do whatever it took to get ahead. Their driving on the shoulder did not sit well with her and she griped about it the whole time.  Smiley

Yes. It made me feel that Colin and Christie might win after all.

I'll give you another way of thinking. Brandon and Nicole and Colin and Christie are in the final three because they were (LUCKILY) save by a non-elimination.  Wink

hmmm. it's true.

luck is a big part of TAR. maybe c/k had the best luck at the best possible time?

i mean, what more could you ask for? an 18 minute lead going to the final destination is insane. and unless chip orchestrated the fog, i'm still saying it's luck.

and i'm not saying they don't deserve it, i'm happy for them. really.

as for colin and christie's driver, my sister and i think that man should be arrested.

Colin & Christie had a flat tire while traveling to the finish line.  That is a big factor on why they lost (takes 5-8 minutes to fix a flat).

They did? Why didnt they shown it? That would have made a lot of Colin haters jump for joy... though of course, I think it would take away the excitement for the viewers...

Anyways, I am glad they won. My bro wants was rooting for them halfway across. And for me, I hope Brandon and Nicole would win it, but atleast Chip and Kim won rather than Colin and Christie(as deserving as they are)...

They didn't show it to hype up the drama.  If they showed it you'd know for sure Chip & Kim would win.

What I thought was gonna happen was when the race between C&C AND C&K, when they were going back and forth and when The first team showed up to the Pitstop I thought it would be Brandon and Nikki... They were so focused on C&K AND C&C that they forgot all about Brandon and Nikki! Oh well.. I like Chip and Kim! Congrads!

Ok, I'm not sure how it works there. So when you have flat tires, what would cause the siren? Police came there to help? Why the sirens? They could have rolled in silently. Do tow trucks have sirens?

Also, does it mean that Colin and Christie might have won it if they're tires weren't flat?

Hmmm... mysteries!  Cheesy

As I said... if they show the flat tire, we would right away know C&K would win it... without the final excitment on whos car will get there first...

Besides, what the audience wont know wont hurt the show...

Edit by sonic:  I think you mean C&K...not C&C.
