Episode 9: Uchenna and Skunk Anansie First; Gays Out

Rob/Amber were first on Phil and the mat but they were told they have the clue.
Ron/Kelly were second.
Uchenna/Joyce were third.
Lynn/Alex were fourth.
Meredith/Gretchen finished their task and went to Phil and the mat.

***All teams were dismayed as they saw that the train ride to their mystery location. And clues were given to them, waking them from sleep, that said they will ride there actually for more than 24 hours. Teams were happy because they can relax there still.

   Arriving in Jodhpur, Rob & Amber raced off the train in first place to find their next clue. Opening it, they discovered they must travel one mile to the Sardar Marker and find a clock tower, where their next clue waited on the first floor balcony. When all five Teams arrived at the clock tower, they found that it was closed until 10:00 the next morning. Lynn & Alex got the most from their overnight stay in Jodhpur when wild revelers pulled them into a huge wedding celebration on the street. From the balconies of their hotel rooms, Uchenna & Joyce and Meredith & Gretchen watched as fireworks and dancing marked the beginning of an Indian couple;s life together.

   All the teams were in the same hotel. Rob asked Samjay to accompany them in the next day.

   The next morning at 10:00, Teams raced to the top of the clock tower to find their next clue, which included the second and final Fast Forward of the Race and a Detour.

Fast Forward.
Teams must travel ten and a half miles to a Hindu temple and participate in a good-fortune ritual: having their heads shaved, something done by Hindu men and women at least once in their life. Teams would not learn that the ritual required head shaving until they arrived. Once both Team members were completely bald, they could claim the Fast Forward.

Uchenna/Joyce opted for the Fast Forward.Lynn/Alex opted for it too, but dismayed Uchenna/Joyce might get there first and choose to return to Detour.Lynn & Alex thought better of a race for the Fast Forward, realizing that the losers could be eliminated.

Trunk.
Teams must go to Jodhpur and use Old City and transport a wooden tiki elephant weighing 600 pounds half a mile to a temple, where a priest would hand them their clue. While physically demanding, this task could be completed quickly with the help of locals.

Dunk.
Teams had to travel to a neighborhood of Jodhpur famous for tie-dyed fabrics and dye white sheets. The dye color would make the next clue visible on the fabric once the sheet was untied. While not physically demanding, this task could take some time, because the clue would appear on only one sheet out of 25.

The four teams opted for the Trunk.

As Rob & Amber, Ron & Kelly and Meredith & Gretchen all began pushing the giant wooden elephants, all are already struggling to navigate their elephants through the crowded streets of Jodhpur. Gretchen made the task more difficult when she hopped on top and rode the elephant while Meredith mustered all the strength he could to keep going. With the help of locals and a shared guide named Sanjay, Ron & Kelly took an early lead along with Rob & Amber, while Meredith & Gretchen fell behind, even being passed by Lynn & Alex.

Gretchen: We have a bad elephant!

The retired couple begged locals for aid as the wheels of their elephant got stuck in a rut. As Meredith & Gretchen fought to keep up, Ron & Kelly and Rob & Amber pulled their wooden elephants into the temple to earn their next clue.

Ron/Kelly were first.
Rob/Amber were second.
Lynn/Alex were third.
Meredith/Gretchen were last.

Travel eight miles via auto rickshaw to the Oeora Krishi Farm to find your next clue.

As the two Teams sped off in their rickshaws, Lynn & Alex completed the Detour, as did Meredith & Gretchen, now firmly in last place. Ron/Kelly encouraged the people to help the very tired Meredith. With Uchenna & Joyce lost and unable to find the correct temple for the Fast Forward, Ron & Kelly and Rob & Amber battled for first place, arriving at the Oeora Krishi Farm within moments of each other. Opening their clues, the Teams found a Roadblock.

Roadblock.
One Team member had to choose a camel cart and race two times around a marked course.

   Kelly and Amber opted to ride the temperamental camels, and the race for first place continued. Things didn't begin too well for Amber as her camel began walking backward, pushing her further away from the start line. Eventually, she got her camel moving, but remained in second place behind Kelly, who managed to guide her camel to a nice trot. As both women completed their first lap, Lynn & Alex and Meredith & Gretchen arrived at the farm in hopes of catching up.

   Going through to the Fast Forward, Joyce worries about shaving her head off.

   As the four Teams battled it out on the camel racetrack, Uchenna & Joyce finally arrived at the temple, only to realize that they must shave their heads to win the Fast Forward. While Uchenna's already smooth head offered no problems, Joyce's was another matter altogether. Over Uchenna's insistence that she didn't need to go through with this, Joyce simply took off her bandanna and sat down.

Joyce:Lets just do it. Im not going back.
   As Joyce instructed the man to begin cutting her hair, she broke down in tears, but remained determined to go through with the task. As Joyce's hair fell away, Uchenna apologized for her having to go through this experience.

Uchenna: You are beautiful. It seemed like there was this blossoming happening with Joyce. The more the hair came off, she just got brave, and I was overwhelmed with pride

   Collecting their Fast Forward pass, the couple learned they must travel to the Pit Stop at Jaswant Thada, a royal tomb in the city of Jodhpur.

   As Uchenna & Joyce hurried off in hopes of a first-place finish, Kelly finished her second lap in the camel cart to complete the Roadblock. Amber was close behind, delayed when her camel briefly stopped just feet before the finish line. With Lynn also completing the Roadblock, only a frustrated Meredith remained on the course, in last place once again.
Gretchen tried to cheer Meredith.

Meredith: I am trying!

Meredith:For God sakes, weve never acted like this with each other.
Gretchen: Talk to the Camel!

   With all five team en route to Jaswant Thada, the margin of error was razor-thin in the race to avoid elimination. With a slight lead over Meredith & Gretchen, Lynn & Alex hit a bump when their driver took them to the wrong palace. After righting their course, the boyfriends hoped they hadnt lost too much time.

   A tight race for first place was decided by a gas station stop when Ron & Kellys driver needed some fuel.

PHIL: Uchenna and Joyce, you are team #1.
Kissing his wife, a beaming Uchenna said, You made the ultimate sacrifice for this one, baby.

   With Ron & Kelly literally climbing over rocks to finish moments ahead of Rob & Amber. And Rob/Amber finding away to even things up with Ron/Kelly. The two teams ran to finish like hell and a fraction of a second ahead...Ron and Rob arrived to pitstop, Kelly and Amber finished yet.

PHIL: Ron/Kelly and Rob/Amber, you are teams 2 and 3.

   Only Meredith & Gretchen and Lynn & Alex remained to check in with Phil. In the end, it comes to a footrace.

PHIL: Meredith, Gretchen, you are...team #4. You are the team that just won't go. And I have a surprise for you. You are officially the oldest people that has ever come deep in the game.

   Stepping onto the mat in last place...

PHIL: Lynn and Alex you are the last team to arrive.

Lynn:I cant imagine anything that would compare to the joy we received from the people on this Race and the people that we met throughout this world. It is the most amazing experience that we have ever had.

Alex: Lynn reminds me every day how much we accomplish together, how much we have, and how much we have to look forward to.

Really good recap!Great Job!
I was thinking at Uchenna/Joyce's finish..that must stink them not getting a reward for 1st place finish after her shaving her head.
