Italian Job Re-released to Theatres

(CNN) -- Buckle up your seatbelts: "The Italian Job" is returning to theaters on Labor Day weekend.
The heist adventure remake of the 1969 classic with the same name stars Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, and the Mini Cooper. "Job" is set for a nationwide rerelease in the U.S. this weekend.
Actress Charlize Theron joined CNN anchor Leon Harris on Tuesday from Los Angeles via satellite to talk more about the movie.
HARRIS: This has got to be a heck of a compliment to you, to have this movie be rereleased. What do you think of that?
THERON: Yes, definitely. It's always nice when you work with a studio who actually believes in your film and goes through all of this to rerelease it again for the public.
HARRIS: What do you think this movie really did with the public [that] resonated so much -- to make it perfect for a replay in the theaters?
THERON: I think it was quite a surprise. People in the summertime go to see a very specific film, and this really fell into that category. But at the same time, [it] had a great story, great action, great characters and great actors. I think people just love that and started talking about that.
HARRIS: You got no argument here. You have a great panoply of actors in this one. And you put in a heck of a performance in here. Did you actually do all of this driving?
THERON: I did most of it, yes. We had three weeks of stunt and safety school. So we were all encouraged to do as much of the stunt work as we possibly felt comfortable with.
HARRIS: Now that the movie has already been shot and is being re-released, [can you] tell us now who is the best driver among all of you?
THERON: You know, I think I did really well. I think I'm a really good driver, and yes, for a girl.
HARRIS: You said that I didn't. That's one thing I would never say, especially about some of the roles you play. You don't play roles typical for those who think that way.
What's next for you? As I understand it, you are working on a movie that might shock people about when they think about some of the other movies you have been in.
THERON: Yes, we are actually in the process of editing right now. It's called "Monster," and we are trying to release it for this year.
HARRIS: Now folks who watch this channel should remember this story because we covered it a bit. Aileen Wuornos was the woman, I believe she was a prostitute, if I'm not mistaken, who was actually arrested and executed I believe as well for killing a number of men. I think it was about maybe eight or nine men or so that she had killed.
THERON: She killed seven men.
HARRIS: Why would that role appeal to you?
THERON: There was something about her story. The way she was covered, which is while the film is called "Monster." I think everybody trying to create this monster, this woman who killed seven men, and she's the first female serial killer, and nobody really knew where this woman came from. The whole psychology of what takes -- what it takes for a normal girl to be pushed into a corner and to end up the way she did, to react the way she did.
HARRIS: Well, I must say, you look nothing like her. You are -- you're quite a catch. She looked nothing like you. I can't wait to see how you turn out in that movie.
THERON: Thank you.
HARRIS: But the big one out now is "The Italian Job." This is quite a point to be congratulated on for all of you to put this together, because it kind of snuck up on people. A lot of folks didn't see this coming down the road and see just how it was going to grab people's imaginations, but you did heck of a job, and it's going to be rereleased. Congratulations.
THERON: Thank you very much.
