'Rocky Horror' Timewarps to 2003
Mon, Jul 1, 2002 12:49 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES  - Fox TV Studios will be producing a two hour reworking of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" airing in February 2003 to mark the 30th anniversary of the play. The new version, entitled "The Rocky Horror Birthday Show" will feature Doctor Frank-N-Furter as a successful plastic surgeon instead of an eccentric scientist.

David Madden, the executive vice president at Fox TV Pictures, told The Hollywood Reporter that he has been looking for a "Rocky Horror" project for years. Of the new version, he says, "The general theme we're going for is, in the year 2002, we live in a world where conspicuous consumption has become the lifestyle to be envied."

"The Rocky Horror Birthday Show" will feature the original lyrics by author Richard O'Brien, who plans to write at least one new song for the film. Also returning to the project is "Rocky Horror" executive producer Lou Adler, who will join the remake in the same capacity.

Casting has yet to begin on the project, but Madden believes the film will be able to draw top talent - especially for the role of Doctor Frank-N-Furter. He reasoned, "If somebody is looking to break their image, what better way is there than for a guy to put on a dress?"
