LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Do actors and actresses fall in love on movie sets because of their chemistry, or because of the heightened circumstances?

The theory behind ABC's new reality dating show, "The Dating Experiment," is that a script definitely helps when it comes to romance. Based on the successful Japanese reality series, "The Future Diary," the show will pluck singles out of their everyday lives and thrust them into extraordinary circumstances.

After giving up their money and credit cards, and being taken away from the influence of friends and family, the players are taken to an exotic location. While there, they are given a red diary, and told to act out all of the instructions provided, regardless of how odd they may seem, for the next two weeks.

The story takes them on odd adventures designed to generate a spark of romance. After the story is over, players go their separate ways. It will be up to them whether or not to pursue the relationship further.

ABC will debut the show with back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, August 13 at 9 p.m. ET. Hector Elizondo ("The Princess Diaries," "Tortilla Soup" ) narrates. The first story, "The Triangle," will pit two best friends against each other in the pursuit of a woman neither has met before.
