Leg 1 Summary

Compliments of Alexander

The race started on Fort McDowell Indian Reservation, from this reservation thirteen teams of two (composed from one former racer and a fan) embarked on a race around the world for one million dollars.

After receiving the typical introductory speech Phil gave the racers one last surprise, Tammy Gaghan and her husband will be racing against them, after Tammy and Bill settled down neck and neck with the other racers, Phil signaled the start of the race, the teams raced to their backpacks and found a route marker which informed them to go to William Jennings Airport to find their next clue. JP and Mirna took an early lead when going out of Fort McDowell and managed to keep the lead to be the first ones to arrive at the airport, ripping their clue open JP and Mirna found out a Roadblock, in this Roadblock a team member had to take off in a fighter plane and, on orders from the pilot perform a 360° loop in the air, disappointed by not flying out of the country JP commented:I thought we're going to another country! I want to go to Egypt!

As everyone did their roadblocks, Marion was the first one to finish; wanting to keep ahead she jumped off the plane with a parachute surprising her team mate Popo, Marions braveness proved worthy as herself and Popo managed to gain a good lead on the rest of the teams, while other teams finished the roadblock Kiwi and Joni were having difficulties of their own not knowing how to fly the plane.

The other teams were now on their way to the Grand Canyon where they will have to find Lipan Point to get their next clue.
On their way there Kiwi and Joni decided to quit the race as it was way to stressful for them and they had a huge disadvantage over the other teams.

Most teams seemed lost on their way to the Grand Canyon, not wanting to get eliminated for this Mirna managed to convince JP to stop to get directions. Arch Angel and Carissa, the youngest team ever to compete, decided to let Arch Angel drive after almost hitting other cars and killing themselves, they received some help from Marion, when Marion and Popo left Arch Angel and Carissa were stopped by a policeman, when the policeman was about to arrest Arch Angel, Alexander and Kellie sped off by their side making the policeman go after them. Still Arch Angels driving skills proved to be bad once again as their car flipped over making their camaraperson result hurt.

While Arch Angel and Carissa wait for their replacement car, Genius and Kris arrived at Lipan Point, taking their clue out they decided to hide the clue box from other teams, this only worked to make Alexander and Kellie loose some valuable time looking for the clue box and making them fall to 11th place, even Carissa and Arch Angel passed them, but when they found their clue they discovered a Detour.

In this Detour teams had to choose between Bailing or Bearing, in Bailing teams had to travel by motorized raft to a section of water where they have to select a submerged boat and bail enough water out of it to make it light enough to carry onshore to a marked location. In Bearing, teams had to travel by motorized raft to a location and choose one of five colored coded cards with a unique compass coordinate. Then, using a compass, teams must follow the coordinates to their next card. To complete the task, they had to find three locations in this manor and collect the same colored card at each point.

The teams found some common ground on the Detour, el_sheik_doufa and Chip raced against Tammy and Bill to complete the Bailing Detour, while Racedude and John Vito soared through their Bearing Detour, at the end el_sheik and Chip finished first and found their next clue instructing them to travel to Lake Powell then find Antelope Point and take a boat into the lake to search for a houseboat, which was the first pit stop in this race around the world.

El_sheik and Chip as well as Tammy and Bill and Jhon Vito and Recedude all jumped into their cars and started a race to Lake Powell, meanwhile the other teams finished the detour and went in hot pursue, the last two teams to finish were JP and Mirna and Peetah and Aaron, worried about being eliminated both teams raced to the pit stop.

At the end Kris and Genius came in first place and won a Jay-Flight 27 B.H. Travel Trailer compliments of Jayco, JP and Mirna received a pleasant surprise when they finished in second place, el sheik and Chip fell to third place and Popo and Marion settled down for fourth, Racedude and John Vito and Arch Angel and Carissa took fifth and sixth places respectively, Blake and t managed to get a seventh place.

A footrace between Tammy and Bill and Peetah and Aaron ended up with the marathoners barely defeating the guys and settling into eight place, while the guys congratulated each other for their ninth place finish. Alexander and Kellie and Tarfan1 and Gretchen each took 10th and 11th places respectively, while Heather and Charla took 12th.

Arriving last Mary and Littleboy prepared themselves for the worst, but Phil had some good news for them, as Kiwi and Joni had quitted through the race Littleboy and Mary will be there to race at least another leg.

Clue: Drive to the McCarren International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada. Once there, sign up for a flight to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Once in Brazil, find the Big Man (Christo Redentor) at Corcovado Mountain for your next clue.
