Episode 5 (Australia --> Nepal): Culture Shock Isn't So...Shocking (Danielle)
 
Previously on the Amazing Race...
 
10 teams set out from this Buddhist stupa in Laos and flew all the way to Perth, Australia.
 
At the Roadblock, teams struggled with digging in sand for a clue...
 
Vic: This is what you get for letting me do the Roadblock!!!
Pete: Shut up & keep digging!
 
...while others found themselves striking gold.
 
Sheena: Wuhoo!!! Found it!!!
 
Fernando & Emiliana had a lead from the beginning of the leg and never lost it.
 
Phil: You're team number one!!!
 
And even though Pete & Vic won the Fast Forward, they got lost and never recovered.
 
Phil: I'm sorry to tell you that you've been eliminated from the Race.
 
Nine teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?
 
*opening credits*
 
Phil: This is the city of Perth, the largest city in Western Australia. Known for its beaches and the infamous Fremantle Prison, this city has a lot of sights, sounds and smells to offer. And somewhere in the city, the Kalgoorlie War Memorial. This war memorial is the 4th pitstop in a Race around the world.
 
Teams arrived at the end of the last leg for a mandatory rest period. Will Fernando & Emiliana hold on to their lead after being first for two straight legs? And can Melo & Louie pull it together to get out of last place?
 
Fernando & Emiliana who were the first to arrive at 6:50 pm, will depart at 6:50 am.

Phil: Teams must now fly from Perth to the city of Kathmandu in the country of Nepal. Once there, they must take a rickshaw to Durbar Square, where they must search the Shiva & Parvati temple for their next clue.
 

 
Emiliana: You have 20 dollars for this leg of the race.
Fernando: Let’s go.
 
*other teams leave the Pitstop*
 
Fernando & Emiliana, Tyler & Hillary, Marcia & Daniel, Alan & Beatrice, Danielle & Theresa and Freddy & Jordan go straight to the airport.
 
Shandi & Sheena, Alexander & Alexandria and Melo & Louie go to a travel agency.
 
At the airport:
Ticket Agent: There is a flight to Kathmandu leaving at 5:30 pm the next day, arriving at 12:50 pm the next day.
 

 
Theresa: Sounds too late. Is this the fastest?
Ticket Agent: There is a flight to Kathmandu leaving at 4:30 pm tomorrow too, arriving at 10:15 am, however the layover in Singapore is only fifteen minutes.
 

 
Theresa: Sounds risky. We'll go for the first flight.
 
Eventually, Fernando & Emiliana and Alan & Beatrice try to go for the 10:15 flight, while the other seven teams, including the three who went for the travel agency, book tickets for the 12:50 pm flight.
 
At Singapore:
*Fernando & Emiliana and Alan & Beatrice run to the counter*
 
Ticket Agent: I’m sorry, but the flight is closed.
Teams: Please, we have to get on this flight.
Ticket Agent: Let me see…
*commercial break*
Ticket Agent: …Alan & Beatrice, congratulations, you can get on this flight.
Alan: THANK YOU!!!!
Emiliana: How about us?!
Ticket Agent: *checks computer* I’m sorry. Plane is closed.
 
*camera shows plane take off*
 
Fernando: This is it! We’re SO toast.
Emiliana: Calm down! Get a hold of yourself! *asks ticket agent* Are there any other flights to Kathmandu?
 
Ticket Agent: Let me see… *checks computer* There is a flight that arrives in Kathmandu at 1:25 pm.
Emiliana: We’ll take it.
*plane takes off*
 
All teams are now flying to Kathmandu.

Fernando: Let’s go!
Emiliana (conf.): Apparently, our flight arrived earlier than scheduled so we hope we can catch up.
 
Alan & Beatrice are first to arrive at Durbar Square. There, they encounter a…
 
Beatrice: Detour: Temple Tour or Durbar Delicacy
 
Phil: A Detour is a choice between two tasks, each with its own pros & cons. In this Detour, teams had to choose between Temple Tour or Durbar Delicacy.
 
Temple Tour: In Temple Tour, teams must search the area for the temple and the monk pictured below. Once the temple & monk are located, the monk will hand them a picture of an artifact. Once the teams find the room where the artifact is found, the monk inside will hand them a picture of the temple and their next clue printed at the back.
 

 
Durbar Delicacy: In Durbar Delicacy, teams must make their way through the square and find this food cart. Once there, they must purchase and finish 5 bowls of dal-bhat (boiled rice eaten with a spicy lentil sauce) to receive their next clue.
 
 
Arrival Order (Durbar Square):

Freddy: We’re not going to Durbar Square. We’re going to the Boudhanath Stupa for the Fast Forward.
 
Phil: Hidden on this leg of the Race is a Fast Forward. The first team that finds it & completes it can skip all tasks and go directly to the Pitstop.
 
In this Fast Forward, that team must make their way to the Boudhanath Stupa. Once there, they must proceed to make a temple offering and perform a “good luck” ritual. However, what teams don’t know is that this good luck ritual is to shave their heads. Once their heads are completely shaved, they must offer their hair to the monk so they can receive the Fast Forward award.
 
 
Freddy & Jordan arrive at the Boudhanath Stupa and are shocked to discover that the Fast Forward involves shaving their heads bald.
 
Jordan (conf.: We told them that we were going for it. Now knowing that we have to shave our heads to get it, we shouldn’t have blabbed really.
Freddy: *to Jordan* Well, we’re here, so why not?
 
*Freddy/Jordan get their heads shaved*
 
At the Temple Tour Detour…
 
Alan: This is so whack!!! We’re at the wrong temple!!!
Theresa: Is this the right artifact room?!
Alexandria: This is easier than I thought. Wink
Alexander: Sure, Alex. Tongue
 
*rattlesnake sound*
Marcia: *arrives at the artifact room instead of the first station*
Daniel: Wait, this isn’t right. Oh s***! We have to find the monk first.
 
At the Durbar Delicacy Detour…
 
Melo: Told you this was easier.
Louie: You’re right.
Shandi: Mmm…the rice tastes good.
Emiliana: Don’t be a baby, Fernando!!! Just eat it!!!
 
Alan & Beatrice finish their Detour first.
 
Alan: Fly to the city of Lukla. Once there, take a helicopter to Namche Bazaar, where you’ll find your next clue.
 
Phil: Teams must now fly to the city of Lukla on one of three charters leaving 30 minutes apart. Once there, they must take a helicopter to Namche Bazaar, a gateway to the high Himalayas for their next clue.
 

 
Beatrice: Caution: Yield Ahead.
Alan: Oh crap!!!
 
Phil: This is the first Yield on the entire Race. At this specific spot, one team can force another team to Yield, that is, stop Racing for a predetermined amount of time. Once a team is forced to Yield, they must turn this hourglass over and wait for the sand to run out before they can move on.
 

 
At the Fast Forward:
 
*Freddy & Jordan are completely bald*
 
Jordan: I wonder what my friends will think back home.
Monk: <receives hair offering> Here is your next clue.
Freddy/Jordan: <bows> Thank you. *rips clue open*
 
Make your way to the next Pitstop, the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park.
 
Phil: Having won the Fast Forward, Freddy & Jordan can now skip all tasks & make their way to the next Pitstop, the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park. This park which contains some of the highest Himalayan peaks, including Mount Everest, is the fifth Pitstop of the Race. Warning: The last team to check in may be eliminated.
 

 
Freddy: Fly first to Lukla and sign up for one of three charters…
Jordan: Oh great. I wonder how they’ll react to our new look.

Phil: So, how do you like your new look?
Freddy/Jordan: I think we can make it work. Wink :laff:
Freddy (conf.): We’ve finally won a leg, and now we’re ready to keep up with our newfound momentum. All these teams better watch out. Wink
Jordan (conf.): …for us and our new looks. :laff:
 
*Alan & Beatrice and Marcia & Daniel see the Yield and run past by it, saying “We choose not to Yield.”*
 
Alan: Roadblock: Who has a thing for shopping?
 
Roadblock: A Roadblock is a task that only one person can perform. In this Roadblock, that team member must purchase an item written in Nepali on a provided sheet below a nomad’s picture. Once the item is purchased, they must bring it back to the nomad pictured, who will then hand them another picture of a nomad and the next item they should buy. Once the person buys all five items, the last nomad will hand them their next clue.
 
 
Marcia: Roadblock. Who’s doing it?

Phil: Teams must make their way on foot to the next Pitstop, the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park. This park which contains some of the highest Himalayan peaks, including Mount Everest, is the fifth Pitstop of the Race. Warning: The last team to check in may be eliminated.

Beatrice (conf.): Today was an example of a risk paying off well for us. We probably would’ve been gone had we not done that.
 
Daniel finishes the first one quickly as well, but does not realize that the other items need to be purchased alone. He asks Marcia to help him with the others and does not realize it even with the clue saying so. Meanwhile, the second set of teams arrive.
 
Shandi: There’s the Yield.
Sheena: <puts Danielle/Theresa’s picture up> Sorry girls, but this is nothing but payback.
 
*at Sagarmatha National Park*
Phil: Marcia & Daniel, you’re the third team to arrive. However, you did not follow the Roadblock instructions properly & I cannot check you in unless you correct it.
Daniel: Whaa…Huh!
Marcia: This is why I should’ve done this one.
 
Louie & Shandi form a temporary collaboration and do the Roadblock together, finishing quickly.
 
Louie (conf.): I definitely wanted to work with them for now because they were fun to work with and they get the job done.
Shandi (conf.): I was so happy that we worked together during this task, but this is a Race and we won’t stay allies forever.
Louie: Let’s go, Shandi.
Shandi: There’s Hillary. Wanna tell her?
Louie: No way, they’re threats!!!
 
Hillary is helplessly lost, asking for help on the task from locals, but they won’t notice her. Eventually, Louie & Shandi run off to their teammates and run towards the Pitstop. They come across Marcia & Daniel, who need to repeat the Roadblock. Meanwhile, the third set of teams arrive.
 
Danielle: Oh crap! We’ve been Yielded!!!
Theresa: AGAIN?! UGH!!!
 
Teams can be seen running towards the mat.

Greeter: Welcome to Nepal!!!
Melo/Louie & Shandi/Sheena: *bows* Thank you.
Phil: Melo & Louie, you’re team number three!!! Grin That means Shandi & Sheena, you’re team number four!!! Grin
Shandi & Sheena & Jordan: *screams in excitement*, *high-fives Melo & Louie*
Phil: So, how’s the Race going so far?
Melo: I’m enjoying it so far. Grin
Shandi (conf.): This leg, we got close with Melo & Louie, who we treat as brothers. I mean, we have our allied moments, but the “sibling rivalry” isn’t gone for good. Wink
 
Alexandria completes the Roadblock fairly quickly and clocks in fifth with her teammate.
 
Phil: Alexander & Alexandria, you’re team number five!!! Grin
Alexander/Alexandria: Good. Still in it. *high-fives*
 
Daniel performs the Roadblock and runs back to the Pitstop with Marcia.
 
Phil: Marcia & Daniel, you’re team number six!!! Grin
Marcia: That was close.
Daniel: I’d say.
Marcia: I didn’t wanna be stranded here on top of the world all because my son can’t shop properly. :laff:
 
Night sets in and Hillary and Fernando are still doing the Roadblock. Danielle & Theresa finish their Yield time.
 
Danielle: Theresa, you do it. I’m too pissed to perform well.
Theresa: Fine.
 
Hillary and Fernando are stuck looking for the third item, while Theresa is just starting.
 
Emiliana: I KNEW I should’ve done the shopping task. This was MADE for me.
Tyler: I know this isn’t Hillary’s type of thing, but seeing as it’s dark already, I’d have probably fallen off the side of the cliff.
Danielle: *screams* GO THERESA!!!
<travelers and storeowners stare at Danielle>
Danielle: *whispers* Sorry…
While Fernando finds his third item, Hillary is lost in the bazaar’s alleys. Theresa finds her second item and she agrees to work with Hillary to find the third & fourth items.
 
Fernando misreads the fourth item and brings the wrong item to the nomad, to his chagrin. Hillary & Theresa then find Item # 3 and hope to make up for lost time.
 
Emiliana: We finally catch up and somehow Fernando manages to lose it. I’m just lucky Tyler & Danielle are still here to keep company.
Tyler: Hey, there’s this German stall. Wanna go there?
Danielle: If it’s okay with the producers, sure…
 
The producers let them go and they enjoyed their time eating bread and pizza, using the money they received.
 
Fernando finally finds Item # 4 moments ahead of Theresa & Hillary. Now all are trying to find Item # 5. Theresa separates from Hillary and now all three have issues: Fernando can’t understand Nepali and no local wants to help him, Theresa has a guidebook which she borrowed, but accidentally left it with Hillary and Hillary can’t see very well in the dark.

As Tyler & Danielle go back and wait for their teammates, Fernando & Emiliana run to the Pitstop.
 
Phil: Fernando & Emiliana, you’re team number seven!!! Grin
Emiliana: WOOH!!!!
Fernando: *tries to catch breath*
 
*camera show Theresa & Hillary finding the last item*
 
*camera shows someone running in the darkness coming toward Tyler & Danielle*
 
Tyler: Someone’s there. Who is it?
Danielle: IT’S THERESA!!!! Grin Grin Grin
Theresa: “Warning: The last team to check in may be eliminated.” Let’s go…
 
*Hillary arrives*
 
Tyler: Good job. Now, let’s go to the Pitstop.
 
Danielle & Theresa and Tyler & Hillary run through the darkness to the Pitstop.

Tyler/Hillary: Oh well, at least the last thing we see before we go is Mount Everest. *points in the distance*
 
Exit Confessional:
Tyler (conf.): Being Harvard students, we thought we could win this Race easily. Apparently, we were wrong.
Hillary (conf.): This Race showed that I can do anything I set my mind to. And it also showed me that I don’t need to be a genius to have an easy life.
Tyler (conf.): Hillary has been a great friend and I expect that we’ll stay good friends like this for a long time.

The Mount Everest thing was short notice so I'm sorry if it looked rushed. Before that, the plan was: Marcia/Daniel arrive second, but incorrectly do the "Temple Tour" Detour (as you can see above, they immediately went to the artifact room instead of the first monk) and have to do it again, falling to 6th, while the Roadblock was a Hindu god/goddess hunt in the Pashupatinath Temple, with the same three teams struggling. The placings were still the same though. Fernando & Emiliana were also supposed to be behind the whole leg until the Roadblock where Danielle & Theresa were Yielded. It's all good though. Wink
 
ETA:
1) I knew that Danielle & Theresa were Yielded already, so it was fun seeing them Yielded again. :laff:
2) I also just found out that I eliminated Tyler & Hillary near Mount Everest, first climbed by sir Edmund Hillary. :laff:
 
ETA 2:
SparkNotes Version for those who didn't want to read:
1. Teams fly to Kathmandu, Nepal. Alan & Beatrice and Fernando & Emiliana try to get on an earlier flight which only has a 15-minute layover, and only Alan & Beatrice succeed.
2. Teams do a Detour in Kathmandu before flying on one of three charters to Lukla.
3. Freddy & Jordan, instead of doing the Detour, go bald for a Fast Forward.
4. In Lukla, teams took a helicopter to Namche Bazaar to find a Yield & Roadblock.
5. As payback for Leg 3, Shandi & Sheena Yield Danielle & Theresa.
6. At the Roadblock, Marcia & Daniel commit a huge mistake, while Fernando & Emiliana, Danielle & Theresa and Tyler & Hillary struggle.
7. Freddy & Jordan arrive first while Tyler & Hillary arrive last and are eliminated.

Leg 6 (Autowil)
 
1. Teams fly to Saudi Arabia. All teams are on the same flight into Saudi Arabia, and during the layover, some teams decide to spend a portion of their money on unnecessary things. Will this come back to haunt them later in the leg?
2. Teams arrive in Saudi Arabia late at night and find that their first location is closed. This location contains the fast forward and in the morning, there will be a mad-rush to it. During the night, two teams stay up and work together to set up a plan for the morning with regards to the fast forward. Which team gets their first and do they decide to take it, or will their be an alliance formed on the behalf of one team to protect the fast forward for them (like David/Mary in Kuwait, TAR 10). Also, will the two teams who spent the night up be tired during the following day and will this cause them to have less focus on the leg.     
3. A Detour
4. A Roadblock, which includes the aspect of water. Although Jordan is a swimmer, will his passion allow himself to finish the task more quickly, or will cockiness get in his way?  
5. A Fast Forward
6. Heat exhaustion sets in for teams while traveling through the Saudi Arabia desert.  
7. Non-Elimination Leg

Episode 6 (Nepal --> Saudi Arabia): I really feel the emotion being carried into the this Hot and Desert area!! (Shandi) Part 1
 
Previously on the Amazing Race...  
 
9 teams set out from Freemantle prison in Perth and Fly over to Kathmandu, Nepal.
 
Alan & Beatrice finish to soar ahead by getting a early flight to Nepal.
 
Ticket Agent: …Alan & Beatrice, congratulations, you can get on this flight.  
Alan: THANK YOU!!!!  
 
Freddy and Jordan decide to take the Fast Forward without knowing is shaving off the head.
 
Freddy: *to Jordan* Well, we’re here, so why not?  
Jordan: *Shakes Head then Nodding*
 
Where they get laughs from teams.
At Charter Flight:
Daniel: *to Freddy * You look like the bowling ball the Johns described to us.  
 
But manage to zip past to the pitstop.
 
Phil: Freddy & Jordan, you’re team number one!!!  
Freddy/Jordan: *jumps up & down*  
 Freddy (conf.): We’ve finally won a leg, and now we’re ready to keep up with our newfound momentum. All these teams better watch out.  
Jordan (conf.): …for us and our new looks.  
 
At Detour, Some teams struggle,
 
Alan: This is so whack!!! We’re at the wrong temple!!!  
Theresa: Is this the right artifact room?!  
 
Some teams managed easily,
 
Alexandria: This is easier than I thought.  
Alexander: Sure, Alex.  
 
At the Durbar Delicacy Detour…  
 
Melo: Told you this was easier.  
Louie: You’re right.  
Shandi: Mmm…the rice tastes good.  
 
At Namche Bazaar, Shandi and Shenna decide to payback to Danielle and Theresa.
 
Shandi: There’s the Yield.  
Sheena: <puts Danielle/Theresa’s picture up> Sorry girls, but this is nothing but payback.  
 
At The Roadblock, Hillary was hopefully lost.
 
Hillary:Excuse what is this?
Hillary: Pls?? Hello??
 
And led to a footrace to the pitstop between Hillary and Terrence and Danielle/Theresa
 
Danielle & Theresa and Tyler & Hillary run through the darkness to the Pitstop.  
 
*camera shows Phil, the greeter and a lighted mat*  
 
Phil: Danielle & Theresa, you’re team number eight!!!  
Danielle/Theresa: OMG!!! *shrieks*  
 
Which Eliminates Hillary/Tyler.
 
Greeter: Welcome to Nepal!!!  
Tyler/Hillary: *sad smiles* Thanks.  
Phil: Tyler & Hillary, you’re the last team to arrive.  
Tyler/Hillary: We kinda knew.  
Phil: I’m sorry to tell you that you’ve been eliminated from the Race.  
Tyler/Hillary: Oh well, at least the last thing we see before we go is Mount Everest. *points in the distance* Exit  
 
Eight teams remain. Who will be eliminated next?  
 
*opening credits*  
 

 
Phil: This is Kathmandu, Capital city of Nepal. Where it contains the Ancient temple and some of the highest Himalayan peaks, including Mount Everest. Somewhere near Mount Everest is the headquarters of Sagarmatha National Park where it is the fifth Pitstop in a race around the world.
 
Teams arrived at the end of the last leg for a mandatory rest period. Will Freddy and Jordan using their new look surge up to first place again? Will Fernando & Emiliana able to get their first place again? Will the constant payback between Danielle & Theresa and Shandi & Sheena be continue which cause both of these 2 teams downfalls?
 
Freddy & Jordan who were the first to arrive at 4.57 pm, will depart at 4.57 am.

Phil: Teams must now fly from Kathmadu all the way to Riyadh, Capital City of Saudi Arabia. Once there, they have to travel by taxi to Musmak Fortress, the fortress which was stormed by King Abdul Aziz and his men in their daring reconquest of Riyadh in 1902. Teams have to search the courtyard for their clue.  
 

 
Freddy: You have 50 dollars for this leg of the race.  
Jordan: Let’s go.  
 
*other teams leave the Pitstop*  
 
 
All Teams departed and left to Kathmandu Airport  
 
At Kathmandu Airport:
 
Freddy: Hi Any Faster flight to Riyadh?
 
Ticket Agent: Due to some security issue, we have only left one flight out to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia which will leave at 9.30am and reach Riyadh Tonight at 9pm with 2 flyover at Doha and Kuwait.
 
Freddy: Sure we can take it.
 
All 8 Teams are on the flight to Riyadh From Kathmandu, which stop at 2 flyover country Doha and Kuwait.
 
*At Kuwait Airport*
 
Fernando: Wow we going to Saudi, Better buy some Mineral Water to pack.
Emiliana: Pls dun waste money!! There sure have plenty of water in Saudi Arabia. Is Middle east but not lack of water!!
Fernando: I Dun care i really need to stock up plenty!!
Emiliana: Up to u!! U carry urself. And if we not enough money, dun come and blame me!!
Fernando:Fine!!
Emiliana: (Conf) Sometimes I dun understand Fernando. Always like to do meaningless stuff.
 
At 9pm..
*Riyadh's King Khaled Airport is shown*  
 
Fernado: Taxi!! Let Go Emiliana!!
Freddy: Yo!! Taxi!!
Beatrice: Quick Alan!! Taxi!!
Melo: Let Go!!

Emiliana:Me and Fernado will bluff said we go and take, where you two quickly go before us. So that you 2 can get it.

Alexander: I really hope we trust the Brazilian couple.

I really won't be able to give you specific information on the next leg until I see how this one finishes, but the eight teams fly to Poland, the team who finishes Leg 6 last has a speed bump to complete, there is an intersection, detour and roadblock. There is no fast forward and it is an elimination leg.
 
Once autowil posts the remainder of Leg 6, I will be able to give you more information about the leg.
