This...is Austin, Texas. With over 700,000 residents, it is a city rising in popularity in the United States. Though it is the capital of Texas, it is known for its university, University of Texas - Austin, as well as its appreciation of alternative culture in comparison to many other cities in the country. Near the growing communities in and around Austin is Bull Creek. This natural wonder is home to many species of plants and animals. It is also where 12 teams have gathered to begin on a race around the world for one. million. dollars.

11. Fernando and Emiliana - Separated Couple

*teams run to bags*

Freddy: Fly to Calgary!

Route Info: Teams must drive themselves to the airport and fly to Calgary, Alberta, Canada and find the Calgary Tower, the city's most recognizable landmark. Teams may choose from one of three airlines - American Airlines, Continental, and United - but seats are first-come, first-serve.

Freddy: Let's go!
Freddy (conf): We're gonna use our physical prowess to leave everyone in the dust.
Jordan: Like we always do, eh?

*shots of teams driving*

Teams arrive at the airport, however some get lost on the way to the counters, completely shuffling the order. The teams are divided on the following flights:

On American Airlines, direct flight arriving in Calgary at 1:30 pm:
1. Alexander/Alexandria
2. Freddy/Jordan
3. Pete/Vic

On Continental, connecting in Chicago and arriving in Calgary at 2:05 pm:
4. Tyler/Hillary
5. Fernando/Emiliana
6. Shandi/Sheena
7. Alan/Beatrice
8. John Jr./John Sr.

On United, connecting in Denver and arriving in Calgary at 2:55 pm:
9. Marcia/Daniel

As with most first-legs, there are some changes within the flights. Due to a mechanical problem, the AA flight arrived in Calgary at 2 pm. The United flight, due to a strong tailwind, arrived in Calgary at 2:30 pm. This puts the teams somewhat closer to each other. They reach the tower as follows:

The climb allows Freddy/Jason to surge ahead while some teams fall behind. They find their next clue:

ROUTE INFO: Travel to the Red Square to celebrate the Olympics. Your next clue will be obvious. WARNING: Yield Ahead.

Teams need to figure out that the Red Square is a name for Canada's Petro-Canada Centre and that it specifically refers to the bronze statue of a runner carrying the Olympic torch.

[insert speech about the Yield, and how it's the first of three

Some teams head for the airport (Freddy/Jordan, Tyler/Hilary, Danielle/Theresa, Shandi/Sheena, Alexander/Alexandria), while the majority stop to ask people about a Red Square, which they find out they could easily walk to via the +15. S/S are saved by a taxi driver who, upon hearing their conversation, inform them of their mistake.

Sheena: zomg I can't believe we're going to Russia!
Shandi: Yeah, but I wonder how obvious the clue is. I mean, the Red Square *is* pretty big.
Taxi driver: You wanted the Red Square? We just passed it.
Sheena: Wait, WHAT? Seriously?
Taxi: Yep.
Shandi: Okay, we need to start checking things. We don't want to be Kelly/Christy.

The other teams realize their mistake at the airport when they see no other teams there. They arrive at the statue:

ROUTE INFO: Travel to Jasper and find the Miette Hot Springs, where your next clue awaits.

The three elderly teams (Johns, Anna/Lisa, Melo/Louie) decide to rent a private bus which gets them to Jasper in the lead. Many other teams take public buses, while others take a more expensive taxi.

Teams reach their clue as follows:
1. Johns
2. Melo/Louie
3. Anna/Lisa
4. Marcia/Daniel (who use a taxi); Pete/Vic (who use a bus)
5. Shandi/Sheena (who use a taxi)
6. Alexander/Alexandria (who use a bus)
7. Freddy/Jordan (who use a taxi)
8. Tyler/Hilary; Fernando/Emiliana (who use the same bus)
10. Alan/Beatrice; Danielle/Theresa (who use the same bus)

The Johns reach their next cluebox only to find an

Yeah, I realized that after all teams were made. I guess I assumed it was short for Victoria, but it doesn't matter.

This is the first of two Intersections. blahblah work together blahblah wait if no one wants to work with you etc.

John Sr.: Well, one of us is going to be stuck here for a bit.
Melo: Yeah, but we may as well keep the bus. It'll help get back some lost time.
Anna: We'll hang behind.
Anna *conf*: We were so grateful that they sprung for a private bus. We thought the best way to repay them would be to send them on their way together.
Lisa: Are you sure about this?
Anna: Yes.

Teams partner up in the following order:
1) Johns, Melo/Louie
2) Marcia/Daniel, Pete/Vic
3) Shandi/Sheena, Alexander/Alexandria
4) Freddy/Jordan, Fernando/Emiliana
5) Anna/Lisa, Tyler/Hilary
6) Alan/Beatrice, Danielle/Theresa

The teams then encounter their first

DETOUR: Calm or Rapid
In Calm, teams must travel to Medicine Lake where they will pan the lake until they have found two pounds of gold. Once it has been approved, they will receive their next clue.

In Rapid, teams must travel to Maligne Lake and ride the rapids of the river near there. Once completed, they will receive their next clue.

As promised, Johns/Melo/Louie wait for Anna/Lisa/Tyler/Hilary, bringing them down in the standings. They choose to do Calm while all other teams do Rapid. During their mining, John Sr. issues the episode quote when he marvels at the amount of gold his team has accumulated.

Teams get their Detour clue as follows:
1) Marcia/Daniel/Pete/Vic
2) Freddy/Jordan/Fernando/Emiliana
3) Shandi/Sheena/Alexander/Alexandria
4) Johns/Melo/Louie
5) Anna/Lisa/Tyler/Hilary
6) Alan/Beatrice/Danielle/Theresa

ROUTE INFO - You are no longer Intersected. Use the provided vehicles to travel to Columbia Ice Field.

Along the drive there, Anna/Lisa and Tyler/Hillary get lost pushing them to the back of the pack.

Teams arrive at the ice field as follows:
1) Pete/Vic
2) Freddy/Jordan
3) Marcia/Daniel
4) Alexander/Alexandria
5) Fernando/Emiliana (who get lost)
6) Shandi/Sheena
7) Johns

ROADBLOCK - Who is ready to sweep away the competition?

In this roadblock, the chosen team member must participate in one of Canada's most popular sports - curling. With the help of some curlers, that player will have to get their puck onto the target. Once they have done that, they will receive their next clue. If they miss, they must go to the back of the line and wait for all other teams in line to attempt it before trying again.

The roadblock proves difficult for some, allowing Tyler/Hillary to catch up. The standings are as follows (roadblocker in caps):

2) Alexander/ALEXANDRIA
3) Freddy/JORDAN (two attempts)
4) JOHN JR/John Sr
5) Tyler/HILLARY
6) Marcia/DANIEL (two attempts)

ROUTE INFO: Using the GyPsY Guide device installed in your car, follow the clues to your next pit stop: the base of Whistler's Mountain.

The clues trip up Shandi/Sheena and Danielle/Theresa, who go off course. The remaining teams arrive in the same order that they completed the Roadblock.
