Well that explains what's going on on the island!  The monster is obviously the destructor created by the fear of the passengers on the doomed flight.  Maybe one of them was having a smore or something and that's why Stay Puff has been tormenting them.

I hadn't seen that before.  I thought it was satyrically funny...then thought that perhaps the characters are making a veiled statement about themselves.  For example, notice how Locke is conducting instead of dancing?  Hmm......
