Upon arrival in Rome, teams learned they had to make their way to the Holy See, or Vatican City. Inside was the first Roadblock. One member of each team had to search through hundreds of ancient, dusty books for their next clue. A yelling fight soon took place between Jenna and Charla about a certain book. Their voices echoed through the corridors and they were quickly reprimanded by some nearby priests. Lillian was the first to find the clue. Teams searched high and low and eventually all found the clue. All teams raced through the Detour and headed towards the Sistine Chapel. Phil pointed out to the Swiss Guard the coming team. Upon arrival, team number one eagerly looked at Phil and the unusually dressed Swiss Guard. "Welcome...to Vatican City!"

Who will be team number one?
And who will be eliminated next?

FYI, I've decided not to go into detail about all roadblocks, detours, flights, taxis, etc. because that makes the stories too long. So, each leg I've decided to focus on a certain part of that Race. Eventually I'll cover all "stereotypical" things that happen on TAR.

Here are the mean scores of the teams without the "point cards" added:

Derek/Jenna: 5.2 (Why does everybody like them so much?)
Karen/Kelly: 5.8
Charla/Ethan: 7.5
Neleh/Gretchen: 6.6
Brian/Lill: 4.0 (Why does everybody dislike them so much?)

I'll post again later with the placings of teams and whether or not this an elimination...

Placings:

1st: Neleh/Gretchen: 8.6 points
2nd: Brian/Lill: 7.0 points
3rd: Derek/Jenna: 6.2 points
4th: Charla/Ethan: 5.5 points
Last: Karen/Kelly

Phil, looked at the team and said, "Karen and Kelly, you're the last team to arrive..............

I'm pleased to tell you however, this is a non-elimination leg. You're still in the Race." Then he took all of their money they had accumulated so far. He didn't take their belongings because they didn't have any. (Remember how teams were only given their passports at the beginning of the Race.)

Stay tuned for the next leg of, "The Survivor Race."

As the third leg of the Race began teams learned that their next destination was Helskinki, Finland. All teams eventually found flights and jetted off into this Scandinavian country. By now, the true personalities of each team were beginning to become more evident. Karen/Kelly were both polite, sincere, and admirable. However, the pressure of the Race quickly got to both of them and they began to become more stressed and tired of each other. Charla/Ethan were both fairly happy-go-lucky and just plain lucky. Luck had played a huge part in their Race so far, but neither had really been grateful for the luck. Neleh/Gretchen were certainly the underdogs, but kept putting along and were admired by legions of fans. The fact that they were both an all-female team and that Gretchen was pushing 67 was indeed commendable. However, other teams disliked the fact that this team was so likable. Brian/Lill were polar opposites. While Brian maintained his sense of humor, Lill was prone to mental breakdowns in which she would cry uncontrolably. Their teamwork was in peril, but they both remained adamant that they would win. Finally, Derek/Jenna were by far the strongest team left. Their strength was also their downfall as they bickered constantly. They were the "unlikable model team" of this season.
